newbie free site review request

Morning all, how's it going

I just submitted the free site listed below to a few places and I'd appreciate your tearing it apart so that i can learn from any feedback you can give me.

let me know whats good bad n ugly when you have some spare time and feel free to be as brutal as you like after all no pain, no gain.

Hi Bluebrit. It's early here and I just took a quick look. I noticed right off you don't have a site title on the index page. I reject sites for that.

I saw you're using free sponsor content but I haven't seen that set of photos before so you'd be ok on that with me.

Your recip table contains 5 recips in row 1 and 4 recips in row 2. It would look better if you used 2x5 recips IMO.
That banner with the big "ENTER" on it might get you rejected at some places (misleading enter link).
On your main page (2nd page) the first half of the page is centered but the further you go down everything goes more and more to the left side of the page. Best thing is to keep everything centered.

Just a few things I noticed after a quick peek

The bad news: It doesn't look good at all.
The good news: There's room for improvement.

The way your FS looks right now I doubt it will get accepted many places. The huge banner with ENTER NOW at the bottom of your index is an instant decline most places.

Your tables appear to be set to 100% width. On my monitor (19" @ 1280x1024) recips and pics are spread miles apart and text is misaligned. Set your outermost containing table to no more than 740 pixels and everything will look nice and tight at all resolutions. Don't forget to set div tags for individual cells.

This gives you something to work on and the fixes are easy enough. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments so far and keep them coming, I'm editing the pages as we speak to bring them in line with your suggestions all of which, I agree with.

I’ve got to admit it never occurred to me to look at my pages using a larger screen size than my usual to check for centering but it’s obvious when you think about it, so thanks again and keep up the good work...

Since you have 9 recips, I'd try a 3x3 table - 99.44% of the time recips will fit 3 across.

The banner on the bottom has to go - you can't have the word "enter" on the warning page of a Free Site unless it's the entrance to that Free Site (most link lists consider it blind)

The rest of the site looks good, except for the font - for some reason, if you use the surfers default font, the site tends to look a bit bland. Play around with some of the popular fonts (Ariel, Verdana, etc)

Some of this will be redundant of what others have said, but here are the reasons that I would reject you.

-No title on pages.
-False enter. (sponsor graphic which reads Click Here To Enter Now on index page)
-Inbalanced recip table.
-Pics are WAY too heavy. You've knocked them down to the bare minimum dimensions, yet they are still range from 100 to 200+ kb's each. Take that down to below 80kb each.

At 800x600 your pages fit just fine without horizontal scoll and I can't tell if they're not centered, so that must appear at higher resolutions.

I know that seems like a lot of reasons for rejection, but you are on the right path.

I am late But here is my 2cents:
I can not see link (text) to 2257 page and yeah..doesnt 800x600 compliant too.
ang I suggest you to use content without watermarks on it (if possible)
some of the BIG guys here dont like it.

Help... I just checked my stats and I'm being hot linked against all of my pictures for the site I listed for review earlier.

What can I do to stop this as this is costing me lots of bandwidth from the number of hits I've been receiving?

I just uploaded the .htaccess page i found on the forum... sure glad it was handy. panic over i think... judging by the stats they've been hotlinking me all day bearing in mind im a newbie.
