Bush to Nominate Alito to Supreme Court
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=1265636
"...stung by the rejection of his first choice, will nominate Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, selecting a conservative federal judge to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, a moderate." "So consistently conservative, Alito has been dubbed "Scalito" or "Scalia-lite" by some lawyers because his judicial philosophy invites comparisons to conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia" ![]() |

"...The 55-year-old jurist was Bush's favorite choice of the judges in the last set of deliberations but he settled instead on someone outside what he calls the "judicial monastery," the officials said."
lol... If anyone really believes this they have not only drank the kool-aid, but they went back for seconds. Since when has this fuck nut not gotten his way in his white house? Sounds like they are now trying to spin that mier’s wasn’t his first and only choice. |

It is too bad that he couldn't come up with a woman that is qualified. The only woman he came up with was deeply unqualified.

I completely disagree Alex and Simon, what would be the point in announcing miers when it will piss off the very people who elected you only to "bait and switch" for the ultra right wing?
He wanted Mier, no doubt in my mind, and with his arrogance he thought everyone would jump on her bandwagon since he is the mighty GWB. The idea that he would name mier just so he could name the guy all the right wings wanted in the first place makes zero sense. |

I think Miers was obviously his first choice. Who wouldn't want their very own puppet on the court? I also believe that Rove was 2 steps ahead and instead of stopping the obvious blunder allowed Dubya to nominate her in order to make the arguement against HIS real choice more difficult. |

Oh dont think for a second that Rove didnt have this charted out long ago - even had the day planned for the announcement - just had to wait till the perfect day to mask the leak results so that the gullible media would forget all about Libby - unfortunately CNN figured it out and they are all over the leak investigation - and even have Wilson coming on to describe more in detail.
Just noticed they have accepted advertising from MoveOn as well - some pretty harsh anti-war stuff. Also a good day to pull attention away from Silvio Berlusconi's visit to the white house. Should be a good terrorist attack any day now - need to wag that dog a little more. That and they want to hide this fact from being reported today: "A Sept. 30 report by the Government Accountability Office found the White House violated federal law by buying favorable news coverage in advance of the 2004 elections. This is the fourth time the GAO has uncovered the White House's illegal use of taxpayer money to produce "covert propaganda." These violations may just form the tip of the iceberg. The administration has more than doubled its public relations budget, tapping a quarter billion in taxpayer dollars since Bush came into office. And while the report is damning, the GAO doesn't have enforcement powers to reveal the full extent of the abuse." |

Sir Moby - It was included in the report on Federal Public Relations Spending done for the House of Rep committee on reform - here's the link to their report with footnotes referring to the GAO reports: http://www.freepress.net/docs/pr_spe...under_bush.pdf
Note its a pdf - the original can be found over on the HOR website as well |
