We lost a car yesterday

So, my sister in law's scumbag boyfriend has been in jail for about 2 years. My sister in law was the co-signer in the loan for the car and couldn't afford it. So, Vickie decided to be nice and take over payments. We have been paying $245/month for about 2 years when yesterday a flatbed truck came pulling up. The guy came to the door and said, the bank said the owner of the car was in jail and wants the car. There was nothing I could do but smile and take the stuff out of the car. I am trying to think of it as renting a car for 2 years at a good price.

I just don't understand why the bank did it now. When the scumbag went to jail, my sister in law called the bank and let them know that he was in jail and they said she was responsible. And yet, they acted yesterday as if they just found out.

Anyway, I am kind of happy it is gone. I knew we were paying for this car and when this guy gets out for good behavior in another year or so, he would have had a nice paid off car. Our moron neighbor who has been wrong about everything he has told me (he is in the car business) said that since I was paying for it, it would be my car. It didn't sound right and yesterday, the bank agreed with me.

Anyway, so now I have to buy my wife a new car.

I can be added to the "peeps in my life in jail list too" .. mine's getting out in 2007, maybe. Just in time to be a real MILF at age 40.

Not by a longshot

That really sucks Jim, my woman's brother is in a similar shitty situation with his daughter's car (no jail involved though). He co-signed, she stopped making the payments, and because the car salesman was both an idiot and an asshole her name is the only one on the title. So, he has a paid off truck that he can't register or sell. I currently sits, quietly rusting, because Michigan law provides him no options other than to give it back to her, and she's strayed way too far from the pack for that to ever happen.

LOL Nope. Try a Dad for 7 years. lol

Jim seems strange, something is up with the bank. I would think they screwed up and my nervous ass would get to the bottom of it asap. Your sister is the CO-Signer so the car is 1/2 her responsibilty, if the bank saw this guy was in jail and the car had a co-owner then they would come after her for the payments. Now if you guys were paying it off then all would be cool cause it would look like your sister was just paying off a car she owns.
But being they took it back makes me think someone, someplace has paperwork fucked up. I would make some calls to protect mine and my sisters ass from a big bill. You know how these fuckers are, they take your car and it takes you 3 months to get it back then they tell you they want the 3 months worth of payments up front or it goes on your sisters credit.

Anyway hope everyone had a nice New Years. Just sat in the house with the wife..

I generally concur. Something is off here or there is something missing. If the payments were made on time and she was a co-signer, barring anything else in any agreements saying otherwise, she isn't really taking over payments but simply fulfilling the obligation. (Ownership between them- if they divorced, etc. would be another issue)

What is perhaps the worst of all here is that won't this get put down as a Reposession on here credit report? And I'm betting it probably won't even get put down as "voluntary repossion" either as is? That is not right! (she was meeting the obligations and fulfilling her responsibility) On top of that, theoretically if they sell the car for less than the outstanding balance, I beleive they can still make her pay whatever is left over between that.

This sounds like a matter for an attorney to me unless money and credit is no concern.

Add me to the list. My brother in law (who has worked 2 months out of the last year and ended up living in my house for six months playing Playstation all day without working except for 3 weeks... ) is going to be going in this month for probation violations. Thing is, I think my sister is better off without him! I hate to say that but it is true (alcoholic). I already helped bail him out once, but I'm *not* doing it again.

This guy did one of the worst things a "man" can do having a girlfriend with a young boy. He also admited to doing it to the dog as well.

Jim, that sucks.

That guy is going to a problem when he gets out if he thinks they are getting back together. A real problem I think.

Only Greenie has met my Wife's brothers but if you ever saw them, you wouldn't want to do anything to their sisters. One of them is 6 feet 3 inches and weighs about 350 pounds. All of them love to fight and they mostly love to fight for their sisters.

The guy in jail has serious problems. Everyone knew that he just wasn't right but never really thought he was a pedophile.

The guy picking up the car told me this was by far the best thing that could happen to me. It sucks when you just try to help family and you get screwed in the end. But, at least it wasn't our car and they didn't take it for non-payment. I am thinking of going with our neighbor to the auction and pick up the car for much less than the money still owed on it just for spite

Jim, for $245 a month, you can get some pretty decent wheels these days. Nothing stunning, but reasonable.

You can tell your wife that SAAB is just GM with a badge now, so don't spend big money to buy one for no reason. There are plenty of other good options out there that won't break the bank.

A shitty situation Jim.

If you're thinking about buying a GM product you better hurry before they go under.

Ain't that the truth. Saw some manufacturing projections and it looks like for the first time, GM and Toyota will be making the SAME amount of vehicles for 2006 - pretty amazing considering that Toyota is nowhere near the size of GM. GM better smarten up before they lose EVERYTHING. Quite sad really.

Damn Jim...that blows

Yea, GM is definitley having some problems...to put it mildly. But, they do have some solid vehicles out there these days. My 02 Avalanche is an awesome truck and has been pretty much trouble free since I got it in 01. It'll be the first vehicle I've ever had (and I've had LOT)...that I'll be buying out the lease and keeping at the end of the term...which runs out in a few months.

Hopefully, GM will get their shit together...perhaps some downsizing will help in the long run.

I was almost guilted into co-signing for an ex-g/f's car while we were living together. Lucking she was approved for credit (I have no idea how but they'd regret it later) and didn't need me to co-sign, just to give her a letter saying she worked for me... 2 years pass, we went our separate ways and I get a call from Honda Finance inquiring about an employee’s status, turns out she missed a few payments, what a surprise! I informed them she no longer works for me but I can pass on any messages, long story short I got another call from Honda Finance a couple months later letting me know if she wishes to pick up her belongings from the car she must do so before it hits the auction block in a few days.

Thank god I didn’t co-sign!

Yup, having your name on the line can come back to bite you in the ass big time.

Found out a few months ago that my ex had filed bankruptcy. There was a credit card she'd been using that still had my name on the account...even though we'd divorced almost 7 years ago. Long story short, I'm stuck with $34k in debt that I didn't spend a single penny of

No, I don't want to buy her a car that she has to put away 5 months/year.
