In German, Easter is Ostern, not Oster - so "Eastern" is a pretty natural assumption for someone who speaks German. What is eastern to us is östlich to them.

Remember, Easter comes twice. Tomorrow is the Easter that most Americans will celebrate by going to church for the first time this year. Next Sunday is the Orthodox Easter and that will be celebrated by many Europeans.
