Tell me about blog software

I'm about to launch a couple of blogs. I've checked out all the blog software at opensourcecms.com and I really like TextPattern. However, it seems that WordPress is the standard for a lot of adult blogs. Is there any factors I should take into consideraton specifically for adult? I plan on using some feeds. One site I want to run more or less on auto pilot - the other will use more custom content.

Best thing to do is (providing you have the time) is to setup a test blog with each script you want to try and see if you like how the templates are, the Admin section, and if it gives you features you want. Take a couple days with each one and try it. Scripts I suggest are WordPress, Serendipity Blog, bEvolution, MovableType (although this is fee based)...there are others too but peeps here will probably add more to the list including their user opinions. You can also check out Hotscripts

lots of choices

Have you been to opensourcecms.com? They have all the top scripts installed and you can take 'em for a test drive. There were a lot of things about TextPatern that I liked.

Let me restate my question, is there anything I should consider about blog software (other than usability) considering it will be specifically used for adult? Personally, I've often found the community behind and using a script is often a very important factor. So if the majority of adult sites use XYZ there may be advantages (code modifications, tweaks, support, resale value) to using XYZ over a script that I actually like better.

WP definately seems to be the blog platform of choice. But, since your the one who is going to be actually learning and using the script daily my advice would be to go with what your comfortable with.

That having been said, you'll find with WP there is a wealth of knowledge on the adult boards if your having an issue or looking for a specific plug-in. That's not always easy to find when you go looking for answers in the mainstream, especially when it comes to needing to post a link so people can actually see what your talking about.

I'm not sure the script selection would necessarily affect your resale value, per se, but it would affect the size of the pool of webmasters interested in purchasing it.

Here's something to take into consideration. Recently I've been looking at adult site designers for a custom blog design. I've found a number of good designers that work with wordpress. But off the top of my head, I don't recall any adult designers working with other blog software.

With the number of free fan-made templates and the site designers that are familiar with wordpress, I think you'd have many more design options.

WP has great documentation, and lots of other users, but the blogs I'm most impressed with don't always use WP. I like the creativity that other cms' seem to encourage.

I agree with NetGoonie. Take the time to experiment with others, find something that works with your way of doing things. It's a blog, afterall, make the investement in a more unique personality.
