Blacklisted!

Hello,
I am very new and confused. I have been submitting, slowly, for a couple of months with few problems. My last submit to "Lazyguy" told me I had been 'Blacklisted'. I have now been outlawed on both my domains: http://netlegs.com http://pornwaters.com.
MrYum, a very nice man/woman? Has just told me about 'subfolders' as opposed to 'subdomains' I thought I was making 'virtual hosts' !
Frontpage tells me I will lose all relevent information if I change the websites to folders; the 'howto' pages I have read has been like reading War and Peace three time and I have never found a help page that even admits to knowing a problem I'm having exists.
So in the words of us old sailors, I'm fed-up, fucked-up and far from fucking home!
Does anyone know what mortal sin I have commited and am I finished in the game before I start?

Hi BrainDead - Welcome to GG&J.

First off, if you want help figuring out what you did wrong with your free sites, try posting a link to some of them here and asking some experienced free site submitters to take a look. It's kinda hard to help you if we haven't seen your sites.

LadyD is right...post a free site or two and you'll get some feedback on your sites.

I did notice that you've got protected whois info on one of those domains, that will cause issues with some reviewers (myself included). Many of us want to know who we're doing business with...not unlike a brick and mortar business

I've never heard of Lazyguy, so doubt that he posts here

I don't use Frontpage so I don't know what to say about your problems with that.

I do think you could benefit from spending some time looking at other sites that are listed on some of the big link lists to get a better idea of how to build a proper free site. That's about all the advice I'm capable of giving today.

For me it is really hard to tell what is good in your freesites. Some times it is better to post one godd fs per week than posting seven fs like yours in one week.

Since I pointed ya here...let me give ya a quick rundown on some probably problem spots

First off, as mentioned I've never heard of Lazyguy. But, I did take a look at his site and he's got pretty much the standard rules in place...including the rule about no sub-domains, so that could be why he blacklisted you.

Okay, on to your site...

The graphics on this site are HUGE. Let's just say the tool that I use to check stops and returns an error at 1 million kb. I know you probably worked very hard to make those spinning graphics, but they're simply way too large for use on free sites.

In this business, surfers have a fairly short attention span...you want fast loading pages...within reason.

Your keywords meta tag is very spammy. Some reviewers check...some don't (I do). As a general rule of thumb...don't include any terms in the keywords meta that's not actually on the page. And never repeat the same word more than 3 times. Meaning...sex, shemale sex, tranny sex would be 3 times for the word 'sex'.

The page looks off center in Firefox 2.0. Some reviewers (myself included) have started reviewing only in FF. So, you'll want to make sure your sites look right in both IE and FF.

Moving on to the main page...

Not sure about mixing a for women site in with the for men stuff. But, that's probably a subject for another thread...

Other than the massive image sizes...

This text almost blends into the background color...

Gallery one...

Spinning image is too big.

You may have trouble getting listings with a hodgepodge of content. The scattered nature of the images doesn't really impart quality to the site...seems like it was just thrown together (I know it wasn't though).

That Nylons Nylons thumb in the middle of the free pictures will cause problems. Many would consider it a blind link (even though it does have the sponsor name on it), simply because it looks like a clickable thumb.

The full sized images are too large for some...try to optimize them down to around 70k or so. Also, not sure if you put it on there or the sponsor did, but the picture frames look rather strange on a porn site. This ain't about art, it's about sex and fun.

Gallery two...same comments as gallery one.

I'd thought about reviewing both of the sites you posted, but the comments would be very similar.

Don't get discouraged...the issues brought up here are very common amongst those new to the free site game. I'd suggest you surf one of the larger link sites, and get a feel for how to build a tight, clean free site.

A word of caution here...not saying you would do it, but it's happened before so this must be said. While surfing those sites, use what you see for inspiration and learning only...never directly copy someone else's work.

As to working with Frontpage, unfortunately I'm no help there as I've only touched that thing a couple times over the years. I would however suggest either learning how to code by hand (which is what many of us dinosaurs do), or perhaps getting a more friendly html editor.

hmmm...ok, think I've rambled on quite enough here...probably too much

Hope this helps a bit...and hang in there...the learning curve is always a bit steep at first

Okay we're agreed my sites stink, I have taken your advice again and looked at a couple of hundred "within the rules?" free sites on the Greenguy list. 200pixals on thumbs, don't apply, 24pics rule, don't apply, all recips on warning page, don't apply, full page ad rule, don't apply. 3 pages in a row IE cannot open page.
I looked as the punter and saw what I have always seen, hundreds of copies of the same website.
I have tried to make the sites different to page after page of the same thing, clearly this does not work so its back to the drawing board.
One thing I would ask, does this "Blacklist" business carry any weight, or should I not ask?

Nah...wouldn't say your sites stink at all. They just need some work to fit within the parameters of what's an acceptable free site...that's all

Besides, you wouldn't believe some of the stuff that hits my review screen every day...your sites don't stink, but I've seen many that do!

As to Greenies site, sounds like you may have been looking at listings that were approved before he changed some of his rules a few months ago.

The sub-domain thing has gotten so commonly known in the business, that many don't specifically list it any more on the rules page.

The blacklist you mentioned probably only carries weight with that particular site, and possibly any other sites he happens to own. So, doubtful you have much to worry about there...except with that one list owner.

As to making something different, it's not that it's a bad idea to think outside the box. Actually, it can be a damn fine idea on your own internal sites. But with free sites, there are certain parameters that need to be followed to maintain some continuity. Otherwise, it'd be chaos...absolutely CHAOS I tells ya!

Seriously, your sites aren't that far off the mark.

Use folders instead of subdomains.
Clean up the metas.
The pages are too fat due to the graphics.
Clean up the content.
Make sure all text is clearly visible on the pages (good idea from a sales standpoint too

)
Preview in both IE and FF.

Submit it

Again, you're not alone at all man...these are very common issues with someone new to free sites. My old sites are downright scary

Yes, we are all copying the same site over and over again. We are a bunch of unoriginal fools. But our sites get listed - yours don't. Go figure.

You may read my words as if they are meant rudely, but that's not my intention. I just don't believe in being supportive nor encouraging to newbies who intend on becoming my competition. I don't know who the hell 'Lazy Guy' is, but I too would have blacklisted you for submitting sites on subdomains and protected whois. The fact that they are ugly is neither here nor there. Yes, I know - you don't see the no subdomain rule written anywhere. There are a lot of rules that aren't written down. It's not like we are trying to hide something. It's merely common knowledge in this leg of the business. Do yourself a favor - Address all of the concerns mentioned in this thread before you submit again. So many people change one thing and submit again while not fixing everything they were warned about.

I build some of the ugliest free sites in the universe, but most of them get listed because they still follow the rules even though they are really REALLY ugly... and remember prettier isn't alway better, my ugly free sites sell just as well or better than pretty free sites. Personally when reviewing I don't care if a free site is pretty or ugly, as long as it FOLLOWS THE RULES.

I forgot my point, but I think it was don't be discouraged, just keep building anf FOLLOW THE RULES and You will be fine
