Cheap/Free blogging software?

Looking for cheap/free blogging software with the following features types if ya know where to get it, post a link

Comments by anonymous users (with edit options by me!)
comments by registered users
automatic archiving
by day
creating a page for each day
with a nice index page for it

That's about it

anyone know where to look? I know i can get these features on some of the larger places etc but would rather have the script on my own URL.

I use this one. It don't have all bells and whistles you want, but I think it's still worth of checking out:

Blog = Web Log

Basically its exactly what vangend said, its a daily online thingy where you post whatever every day. Some people use it as an online diary, others... well, have other uses for it

I plan to do a bit of both.

I dont read any blogs, other than stileproject.com occasionally (which isnt really a blog!) so i'm no expert

Thanks everyone for the great response I'm sure I'll find what I'm looking for in one of those

I've noticed that programers seem to use them as a mini board, like this one, http://unsanity.org/ You can have a Blog that allows others to post comments and some of the Blogs, like the one that I posted, finds other Blogs with like comments and puts up links to them.

Also when the US invaded Iraq there was a person in Irag that was Bloging for the world to see. It was very interesting stuff.

There is now software available for the desktop that allows anyone to publish their thoughts on the web.

I hear that blogs are good for Search Engine food but I for 1 cannot seem to find the time to update a blog so I'm resorting to old fashioned Search Engine hard work LOL

cleo - it says on movabletype.org that "Movable Type is free for personal or non-profit use..." , so I am not sure if we're allowed to use it (we'd try to make some profit out of it, wouldn't we?) ....

Yeah I remember seeing that when I was using it. It was my personal Blog, but I was doing it to see if it had benefit in traffic. I even edited a template to match my link list complete with ads.

I figured that if I kept of using it or if they sent me an e-mail then I would pay for it. I seem to remember it wasn't much money.

Anyway I decided that Bloging wasn't for me so I removed it.

Blogs = Verbal diarrhea for the most part.

Now they have become the darlings of google, and traffic hungry morons all over the world are generate thousands of pages of totally useless, pointless, unentertaining drivel filled with links to the sites and items they want google bot to enjoy.

Blogging was original the domain of a very few game designers and such, as far back as 1997 on sites like bluesnews.com and others, you would find the game designers with "logs" of their activities and the status of projects. In the last couple of years, every idiot with a computer and a keyboard seems to want to spew their useless lives in great and stunning detail for all of us to enjoy.

For what its worth..

I have no intention of working up anything other than a mostly personal blog.

I do hope through various sources to get a bit of readership, but mostly friends and family.

I plan to include links of sites that I build as well as links to my hubs as I build and if people view them so be it. I dont plan to 'hide' from any blogging updating type sites etc.

Mostly though just have a lot of shit to get off my chest, I think some of the stuff I've been going through (my health, my heart, my job, etc) are all interesting enough to captivate a few blog readers who might also enjoy visiting porn sites

but no, as for making a bunch of search engine spamming pages, no dice. I've worked too hard to build my page rank and google know how to risk it on something like a ton of random blog gibberish

Well said Boogie!!!: "but no, as for making a bunch of search engine spamming pages, no dice. I've worked too hard to build my page rank and google know how to risk it on something like a ton of random blog gibberish" I agree with you 100% I figure that this kind of spam is only going to last for so long before Google finds a way to weed it out anyhow. I would rather build my work on a solid foundation of knowledge.

Hey!

Just to let everyone know that I went with the script hosted ther at tom's newbie booster. pretty useful stuff.

Was a lot easier to customize since I did it using SSI and he kinda walked ya through it. Not the most powerful script, didnt have everything i wanted in it, but its got enough to get me going. I might change later on.

Cleo, I would have definately went with the script you suggested however I was afraid to end up having to pay a liscense fee on it, since i'm also using it to generate some income. Plus with my limited knowledge on setting things like that up it really was very daunting

I tried a couple of the scripts at hotscripts, namely Bmachine, but I found it very difficult to customize those and most used mysql.

The newbie booster script makes the most SE friendly pages and archives so I thought it would be best in the end to go with that one, especially since it took me about 10 minutes to set up, (though another hour to customize it the way I wanted it to look) and quite a bit of elbow grease learning how to set that kinda crap up :p

See, those are my questions as well urb. Of course I do run a phone sex biz so maybe I shouldn't worry about whether people read it or what I would write ... I just think that it would take away from my time on message boards which would kinda really "suck" LOL

Its suprisingly easy to find stuff to write about and to serve links to things.. at least, for a Porn based Blog.

Links to hosted galleries or sites, for example, have been going over well. Links to adult related news works too. repriting part of an article will be keyword rich as well as including links to that article...

and of course, when people see "porn blog" on a lot of the web log archiving sites, they seem to perk up a bit.

So far, so good. I dumped about 500 hits from fark.com onto it and it went over well good number of bookmarks from that.

Apparantly people ARE interested in what a porn webmaster has to say

Boogie it sounds as though you had an "awakening" as I like to call them. I have had a few of those in my life as well. I think we all need them to help us learn and grow. I am just glad that things are going better with you now and that you DID learn and grow from yours

Thats the great thing about the Internet - anyone can publish.
You just have to read the stuff you want to read - there is a lot of drivel in your average bookstore too, you just navigate your way around the shelves, till you find the stuff that interests you!

Good luck with your project Boogie :-)
