TGPX instead of LinkX as Link List script?

Maybe this is a strange question since JMB Software makes both the LinkX script for Link Directories and the TGPX script for TGP/MGP sites. But I'm looking for feedback about the idea of using their TGPX script for a Link List.

I know that a lot of us have used JMB's earlier scripts like TGP Rotator and Auto Gallery Pro and AutoGallery SQL. And I know some of us have used those TGP scripts to make Link List sites. So what I'm wondering is if there are some people who are now using JMB's latest version of their TGP script, TGPX, to manage a Link List?

I have a copy of JMB's new LinkX script but I'm finding it more restrictive than I like. I have a copy of DragonList too, but that one's been too long without an upgrade and is missing features that I want.

SO...I'm considering other options for new projects. And one thing I'm considering is using TGPX, with the user-defined database fields it allows, to make it work as a Link List script. And if that works fine, then I'm thinking of using the server-edition of TGPX to allow one database to populate multiple Link Lists on several domains.

Anyway, before buying another script I thought I'd ask here and see what feedback I can get from others who are using TGPX and maybe using it for a Link List.

I have LinkX and I can tell you it does SUCK. I use it for a pornstar tgp and the fact that I cannot bulk import links means when a sponsor releases 10 new galleries and the models are different I have to enter the galleries one by one. That alone is a ridiculas feature.

I have bought TGPX server edition and am using it to populate several sites. It is a great script. Bulk importing of galleries. Separate submit urls for each domain if you want. Different designs for each domain of course via the templates. Very nice script that I'm sure can run any link list you'd want.

I use TGPX as a link list script and I love it!Now if you ask Jeremy (creator of the script) if TGPX can be used as a link list script,hes going to say 'no' but I don't see why.Check out my categories at Dickheadshit.com to see it in action if you get a minute.My set up is a little weird so scroll down to 'existing index' on each page to see my index of free sites.

You actually can , just need to adjust file text a little adding categories and account name keywords or whatever you want

Then just set user link fields for each variable
2nd step
and click import.After that you should see error message like this:
Fatal Error
"Error:
Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
Trace: call_user_func in index.php on line 41"
well ignore that(I will show this bug later for Jeremy) go to your search links dir and see the latest links added.
3rd step
It' s just that.

Simon ,when it comes to "custom link fields" you can create anything you need.Thumbnail URL's, second title, I did small option list and called"link content icon" and my submitters choosing :pictures or movies or blog ICON.Also created extra message field for submissions , for extra info from submitter ( just in case ).

Another amazing feature in 1.1 version is
quicktasks option where you can mass change, mass set or mass delete one "custom user links variable" in all chosen links.

Unfortunaltelly LinkX not comes in server edition, but wheter you choose LinkX or TGPX you have good support and very often updates and upgrades from JMBSoft.

Wow...I didn't realize that could be a problem. I've used the import function in LinkX version 1.0 and I know they improved it some in version 1.1 but haven't used the import function in the newer version yet. This is the info on the new import features in case you're still using version 1.0 (like I was until this weekend).

Thanks for the feedback on TGPX server edition. I sure wish LinkX was as good as their tgp products and had a server edition but I'm tired of waiting for either of those things to happen. So I'm really leaning towards using TGPX for some new Link Lists at this point.

Star Man - I was going to ask Jeremy but I figured he'd say that since he wants people to use his LinkX script. But I sure can't find any reason (yet) not to use TGPX for a Link List.

Nice work on DickHeadShit... I always liked Max Headroom too.

Did you (or anyone using TGPX) find that there are particular user-defined fields you find very useful? I'm thinking of adding a field for "Title" since there's only a "Description" field in the default setup. Any other suggestions on those?

Or anyone else with more to add?

Yeah,thats the only reason I could think of that he would say no.I've been using this set up for over a year now and I haven't had any problems,in fact the more I learn about TGPX the more I like it.

Yeah,I use 'keywords' for titles like this.

No,your not missing any points Simon.I just thought 'keywords' would be a quick easy way to do it really.If you feel you want to create a custom field that you like better,go for it.

I just wanted to post for others reading this thread in the future that there actually is a good reason to do what Star Man suggested here. I missed the point earlier because I hadn't yet discovered that the custom fields you can create are not displayed on the Search Galleries interface, only the built-in fields show up there.

So creating a new custom field called 'site name' or 'title' field for use by submitters is good, and it will show up during site reviews, but after that you'll only see the Free Sites' titles when you edit each individual record. No problem displaying the custom fields to submitters or surfers, but you can not see them in the admin via the main interface used to view your inventory of sites.

The idea of dedicating the Keywords field for this use is actually a good workaround for this problem.

one of the problems i see is when that scanner looks at a free site its gonna see a warning page when it expects to see some pics

I'm not totally sure this would work Tommy but you might want to try this- Create an imaginary sponsor called 'submitted sites' and just mark all your submitted sites with that when you review them.Then create a custom scan with with only the 'submitted sites' sponsor and 'no preview thumb' selected.You would have to a run 2 separate scans but I think it could work.

I am using linkx on a domain at the moment. Its been an ongoing LL project for a while now and I am just about finished with the testing stage and ready to populate it, having played around with the script quite a bit.
I do agree the import function could be better and that is something I am trying to sort out at the moment. If I have any luck getting it to import all of the required fields I'll let you know. Why it doesn't do this as the norm is beyond me but that seems to be the only failing I have found.

I just played around with the linkx import function and got it to import everything I wanted it to using the following format without the need to change anything:

email address | site url | recip url | description | title | submitter ip address | keywords | clicks | weight | submitter name | admin comments | category
Note: No spaces between the '|' I spaced it to make it easier to see.
If using sub cats, add the category like this example. Big Dicks/Big Dicks Movies.

Remember this works for me during testing. Always make sure it works for you before mass importing anything

Once you have imported links in this format always use it and linkx will remember the format so you don't have to set the options each time you do an import.
"Other settings" field at the bottom of the import page does not need to be changed from the test imports I have made.
