Spent part of the day yesterday directing traffic when one station in town got a tankload of gas - it lasted about 5 hours and then ended up turning away another 400 cars that had been waiting in hopes of getting gas. We're supposed to see another tanker show up today sometime but not sure.
I dont work for any of them, but the gas stations around here are required to wait to see what their invoice is for tanks of gas before they can raise the price
The attorney generals of each state are the best to report the price gouging to - they will prosecute those operators - in Miss we are hitting them with 5 years in jail and a $5000 fine - and the atty general does definitely go after people for it here

th3g4me - the IRS and Treasury Dept suspended that law today to allow anyone to use the offroad diesel (dyed-diesel) until the 15th of Sept on roads. Its part of some changes their making today to try to get more trucks with supplies to the coast here - but applies to the whole US

MOntreal price up to 1.479 per litre - somewhere between $4.60 and $5.00 per US gallon - and rumor has it going up another 20 cents per litre before the weekend is out. That would add another 60-75 cents US per gallon on there.

This is going to fuck up the economy all over... and there is one monkey at the top of the chain who didn't work hard enough to head this off.

Thanks Dubya!

I'm guessing that this is going to start a whole new round of inflation if it lasts a long time. I remember 1973 very well. I'm just glad that I locked my mortgage in at 4.5% before all this happened.

There is a very good chance Cleo. We may be looking at the trigger that really does the economy in.

Whatever the outcome for New Orleans, I think this event has all but assured us to see a democratic president next. Bush is never going to hear the end of his "this isn't acceptable" while he wanders around in a chopper shaking hands and keeping people out of the field for photo-ops.

A truly ignorant little man far bypassed by the realities of the day.

No, this time I see even republican politicos in the area calling on Bush to move his ass.

New Orleans Mayor: No more press conferences... just work! He has the right idea.

Bush = lost in space.

Btw- I will not complain about our fuel prices. Not when my parents or guys like Chop have to spend hours sourcing 20 gallons to power a generator for a couple of days- and they're the lucky ones

emmanuelle - thank you - that is exactly right - the politics of this can come later and for those that know me - free speech is something Im always for!
Right now is not the time to criticize or discuss politics - its time to take that time that you would spend arguing and go donate blood or something of your time to help - even just a little of anything will help right now

I'm happier just arguing and complaining about it. Doesn't really require much effort from a guy like me.

I just filled my truck
329.9/Gallon
Gas...349.9/Gallon
So, 2 weeks ago, diesel was 25 cents/Gallon more than gas. This week, just the opposite. Strange but true

I thought that too Linkster but after a few miles of driving, all stations have diesel cheaper. It was like this a few years ago...one week diesel is cheaper than gas, the next, not. Thinking about how refinement works, diesel should always be cheaper.

It reminds me of when they were first making leaded gas illegal. Now, they had to add the lead to the gas so it should have been more expensive but nope...unleaded was more expensive. It wasn't like they had to remove the lead...they just had to stop adding it.

I'm telling you...living in a farm area, biodiesel is looking good. I can get the ingredients and for just $4k, I can buy the refining equipment.
