Type over images that is engine readable.

Most of the pages on my site are images, usually generated in Photo Shop. These images have Photo Shop text included in the image but since it is an image, the text is not readable by the engines, which (I think) makes my site appear to the engines as being short on content. Does it? Yes? No?
Is there a way to place the text (HTML file?) over the image so that it is engine readable WITHOUT saving as separate layers or as a GIF file--which causes my images to lose quality?
I have tried saving the image as a background, but then it brakes up into a bunch of images Not good?
Maybe this not even possible, but if it is, please tell me how.

Yes it is good to have text on your site as far as seo goes. You can put images in the background of the page or table cells but its tricky to get right and visible and if you don't know html or css it can be a mess. If you have to design a whole page in PS maybe leave some empty spaces for text. I have no idea what you mean by 'saving' the image as a background...

There are lots of reasons to use more text than images on a site...not the least of which is seo. Text is also much lighter and loads faster than images.

I agree with Natalie...try to find some middle ground by leaving some spaces in your images for text. There's a lot you can do with text via css to make things look nice

Type over text

Folks, thanks for all your advice.
As I said, my main concern is that with all these images, the engines may not think I am "content rich." Maybe I am being overly concerned because throughout the site there IS a bit of text.
Actually, I hope I am being overly conerned--would save me a bunch of head aches.
Your frank thoughts please.
Below is a link to just one of such pages so you will see what I am driving at. Note that I do not always use that transparent square on which to place type. Sometimes I just over-write the picture--if the background is not too busy.
Also, I usually always use ALT tags, but you will see that in this case I neglected to do so, but I will.
This is a "moderately" adult site, so if you are going to be offended, don't go.

offended lol! most of us make much more offensive sites than that.

To me thats a nice lot of wasted text. I would find a way to put that text into the html, maybe (if you are so keen on images) by using a table layout that allows a table data with the background in it and then html text inside that. Take the index of one of my linkslists as an example, I designed it in photoshop and using slices cut it into pieces that when saved for web equate to table cells. http://www.forpinkpussy.com/ This table cell with the text "We bring you best in free sites DAILY that have hot pics and movies of pussies" could have had a background image to it. Now it isnt as simple as I just said, the table html that PS spits out needs to often be modified and it will for an image to be background, but that maybe gives you an idea.

Wow, you really did the rounds on the boards with this question. A background in a table will work perfectly for what you need. Create the transparent white square, leave it empty with no text, create a table and use that white square as the background. You will be able to write text normally as html over the square in the table. ALOHA
