How legit are dating sites
Every once in a while, I would notice a girl's picture / profile in one of those geo - targeted banners for different dating sites. The girl probably just signed up for both sites, I thought.
Today, I was at a site and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a girl's profile supposedly living in my hometown. It was Raven Riley. WTF! ![]() |

They're not very legit.
Tons of fake profiles, escorts and prostitutes, a pretty low percentage of actual women. Are there some real women? I've heard there are. |

If you're going to sell that kind of thing, it's best not to ask those kinds of questions.

There was a time when they were legit. I dated a very hot woman for about a year that I met on Match.com. That was before they started offering photos though.
I recognize many of the girls on banners from those geo targeted ads and they're usually Czech or Hungarian models. If you use those type of banners then know that you're scamming your surfers. Some people don't care how they make money and some prefer to offer something legit. That's for you to decide. |

There are a lot of people, some big names, that make a lot of money selling what is at best mostly a scam, and at worst is plain and simple prostitution, an illegal service.
But it's sold by those big names because it makes money in an era when paysite sales are steadily dropping. If you want the money, it's better not to know what you are really selling. Will it get investigated? For now it doesn't seem to be on Justice's radar. And lots of people sell it. There might be some companies that are more legitimate than others. |

I hear what your saying, but since I'm a very curious fuck, I had to ask. I believe in being informed prior to making a decision. How many webmasters actually read the TOS before signing up? I read every fucking one. I'm anal like that. Thanks for the info |

I would think that out of privacy issues, they would have to use phony photos in their ad campaigns. That being said, someone who signs up to meet a woman based on a blurry, nude photograph probably deserves what they get.
Carol Cox runs a similarly themed site for lifestylers, http://www.adultlifestylesnetwork.com/ and has an affiliate program for it through Ccbill. To my knowledge they've never resorted to misleading advertising tactics, nor do they ask their webmasters to. |

That's one of the reasons I don't use the geo-targetted ads. They seem so phony -- and regardless of whether you have moral qualms about that I figure it just isn't good business to basically try to con people up front. Sure you'll get more clicks, but will people buy when it becomes obvious these girls are not really in their home town?
And are they going to come back to your site and trust what you tell them next time? Edit: Oh and yes there are real girls there, I used to be registered with a few, but I'm sure my profile is still up though I haven't logged in in 5 years.

I was a member of Eroticy for several years. They have an adult community that offers a lot of stuff. Amazingly, every year I'd get an email saying I'd recieved a message just after my membership expired. Clearly these were fake. On the other hand they do have a good number of real members and a lot of content to offer so I still recommend the site on my porn review site.

OK, here's a question of only theoretical interest to me but I am curious...
I suspect that at least a few savvy surfers know that "Meet these REAL LIVE women in Bum Steer, Texas now!" is some sort of script and the ad is bogus. But...would it be technically possible to make a geo-specific banner script that, instead of using a pool of random Czech model pix, *would* contain pictures of a dating site's actual members from the geo-specific locale, assuming there was a database of pics arranged accordingly? It seems any "real" dating site would have an advantage over the phonies if they could do that. |
