problems with xp and backslashes

just went from 98 to xp and have never had a problem with backslashes in a url
usually ie6 just turns them automatically

now as soon as i hit enter
something called lookupanything takes over the address bar and shows it can't find the url with all backslashes as the % sign and it some kind of search engine

anyone know how to fix this prob
