possible 2257 solution offer your thoughts
Everyone is worried and wondering how to deal with the changes in the 2257 and I have a thought that might be a possible solution. What I would like is to see if others think it would be a good Idea and if I should put the idea into reality. I have come up with one way to track jpgs and to record the 2257 information for every jpg on a site using a data base. I am not going to exactly explain how to do it but this is basicly how it would work. All images can be uploaded to a temporary folder on a server then a php script is run to parse all the images and record information about the images, next the script will allow the user to input the 2257 information about the images as scanned images ( scan the documents as images) the scanned documents will be stored on a site and the information saved in a database. Once the information and images are recorded the images can then be uploaded anywhere. When or if anyone wants information about an image they would only need to run the php program input the url and the script would check the image against the database and it would output the correct 2257 documents about that image. Once the information is recorded the images can be renamed or moved to anywhere on the internet and the php script will be able to access the 2257 information. As long as the images are not edited this will work. I am looking at mpgs, avi, gifs and wmvs to see if I can make it work for them also. If this program works as well as I think it will the DOJ would not even need to come to the place of busisness to verify 2257 compliance they could simplybe given access to the script and verify and obtain information from any computer that is connected to the internet. Pay sites could work out a system with people who promote their program so that if they need access to the 2257 they can be given access to the database for a set period of time with a simple phone call to the sponsor.
So what do you think is this idea worth following up on SexycityBrian |

update I belive that jpgs images could be resized without having to be rescaned and having the 2257 information re recorded mpgs, avi, wmv and other media would have to be rescanned and the 2257 information would have to be re recorded if they were edited or resized.
But an example of how this would work for people that promote if the DOJ wanted them to show the 2257 information they could copy and fax the DOJ's ID to the sponsor who would then give them the url and a login good for say 24 hours then the DOJ could use a computer right there to verify the images or movies by simply inputing the url and they could then print out the documentation for verification or just view it on the computer |

Took the hint.

Brian, nice, except the records MUST be at your principle place of business. No third parties, which basically negates all external systems or "networked" solutions.
The records must be available in your in your office. That means no net, no nothing... just records. I don't understand how your proposal would match up with what the DOJ has been asking for. Alex |

Alex - that was an actual comment from the comments period of this statute as well - a few people suggested it and the DOJ decided against using 3rd party and online services for the recordkeeping by basically stating all you have to do is use your home computer with a seperate directory that houses all the records - dont make things harder than they need to be - secondly the 3rd party could introduce a filter or screening into the process which DOJ is not comfortable with - as well as stating very emphatically the records have to be available at your regular place of business for inspection during your posted working hours.

Yes the on site issue was brought to my attention this morning but it can still be done just each individual would have to have a system set up to run the scripts on site. I am still looking at the idea as a whole and trying to figure out the best solution that will expidite finding the records on request while still staying within the guidelines of the DOJ. I will have to read the 2257 a few more times to make sure that I can make it work and if I do I will post a demo for anyone who wants to look at it
