Embedding movies & hotlinking

I know it's difficult to protect WMV against hotlinking, but I was wondering if embedding the video on the page rather than just linking to it would fix the problem. Obviously this isn't for galleries or freesites; I'm putting together a new hub and if this works it would be great. Thanks!

Oh well, I guess there's no easy fixes. There's always mpgs...

I like mpegs, I really like that everyone can view them without issues and that they are easy to protect using htaccess.

I can't tell you how much WMP sucks on the Mac.

Since you are using WMV do a search on DRM (Digital Right Management) I looked into it for a little while and think you might have to pay for the service, not 100% sure on that. But from what I heard its the newest and best way to protect you media files but I'm sure that will be broken buy some Russian or Chinese kid with nothing better to do.

It is also limits your movies to Windows only computers.

Non-Windows users, how many can there possibly be?

Actually, my WMP, for some reason, won't play mpgs straight off the bat. First the whole movie has to download and when I click on the link again it plays fine.

LOL I was told at one time non-MS surfers account for about 15% of the world. 10% using MAC and 5% using something else. Thats really a big number when it comes to things like media. But I would have to think that the people using those OS would know they need some kind of plug in as 50% (rough guess) of the net (sites) are using some kind of MS media files. I have only seen mpeg and wmv. Dont bother with RM or quicktime mainly because the companies turned me off with auto starting the program on a reboot. I know it can be turned off but i just hate tht they do that. As far as you problem I think you might need to clear out your cache and also go back into your options for media player and look for file types and select all. I only use media player as I dont like to install other software when there is no reason to. WM10 pretty much has covered all the bases now in what it can do. IE Rip burn playlist DVD etc

There is no way to play DRM protected WMV files on a Mac, just can't be done.

Not sure how iTunes plays into this since it has 80% of the mpeg player market and part of its install is installing QuickTime.

I actually really like Real Player the best. We don't use it at FoxyAngel, we use Mpeg-1, but it does seem to be really good quality and streams well on the news sites and places like that.

Mpeg-4 has some really nice features but it doesn't seem popular with the Windows users.

The nice thing about mpeg-1 (.mpg) is anyone can view them.

To protect movies against hotlinking you can use http://www.antihotlinking.com/ or you can get a free AHL at http://www.glamour-videos-cash.com/
