This is where your Relief $ is being spent

I have looked all over for this story on a site, but so far the only place I find it is on CNN Headline news. Here in Florida the last 8 minutes or so of the 30 minute cycle are “Local News” and one of the stories they had was a Katrina Shelter for the refugees from AL, MS and LA outside Orlando in Groveland, FL.

They had it set up for 300 people, beds, showers, clothes, and massive amounts of catered food, and had a huge turnout of volunteers to help out.

Not one person that needed it was there.

The director was LAUGHING how well the volunteers where going to eat, and they showed the food and I must say I am impressed on the high quality of food. They also showed the new beds, new blankets and clothes and everything else and not one person showed up.

And it goes into part of my other issue I have with people in “power” like Bush and this woman in Groveland FL laughing and smirking when 1000’s are dead and 100,000 or more are homeless.

USE YOUR FUCKING HEAD, no one wants to see some person of “authority” smirk or listen to them chuckling when we are in a national disaster. At least fake that you care when you are on the camera.

Rice is said to have been shopping in NY buying shoes, when a woman approached her asking how she can be on vacation and shopping when a Cat 4 just destroyed NO she had the woman physically removed by security.

Yeah, we are such a great nation, I can’t tell you how proud I was watching George flying over the destruction in Air Force One on his way to a Fundraiser for the GOP in SD and then some golf. He must have had a great view in those 747 windows flying at 300MPH.

CNN had the FEMA director on tv asking him, why does CNN have better information then FEMA and why the tsunami victims had food drops 2 days after and it’s day 5 and still no food drop? All this FEMA guy could say is “we are going to”

FEMA needs to be disbanded… they simply have no clue.

The mayor of New Orleans is far more professional then I would be, I would have called Bush out with much more words bleeped out.

This is a sick sick sick mess, and I don’t know what is worse, the Cat 4 or the “help”.

Bush is a national disgrace and should be impeached for abandoning his people.

I don't know how many people remember on 9-11 Bush was in FLA and tucked tail and ran for cover until it was safe to return to DC. I quit wondering why people re-elected him after they allowed him to cover that up. This is just latest example of our fearless leader being anything but...

My wife, kids and I felt so bad that I clicked on the red cross link on the top of the page (hit reload until you see it) and ended up donating $1500 to the Red Cross 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund. The kids said take it from their Christmas money

it's stuff like that that help make me muster up a smile. Good for your kids you should be proud.

My husband and I donated last night also. My husband has put in to go up there and cook threw his company. I'm looking to see if I can take a mom with a baby into my home. I don't have a spare room but we are willing to bunk up to offer a room. We are just so depressed here and feel we have to do something.

We feel the same way Sue. I told Vickie we could load my truck with as many supplies as we could and hit the road. I have a pretty big truck but I don't think it would really do much good.

Its amazing that they would even set up a shelter there since I-10 is destroyed as is 90 - you cant get east of the storm area - the part of I-10 that is useable is only taking traffic west to get supplies into the area

If you want to go east, you have to go west and then go FAR north, then come around... it would be an insane trip.

They might be able to get people there is they use planes.

Here is an update from Groveland

A 300 person shelter now has a mom and 3 kids, stocked with enough food for 300 meals x 3 a day.

More may start showing up tomorrow….. may…..

ABC World news is doing an hour long show now on this mess.

A member of the Spanish Parliament is one of the refugees, her husband talked on camera that this is genocide since where was the help for the last 5 days. They then showed the National Guard surrounding the Spanish Parliament Member and escorting her out passing hundreds of Americans begging for help.

The also showed the first FEMA semi loaded with water arriving in NO, he is from Dallas and has been loaded and WAITING SINCE MONDAY TO COME TO NEW ORLEANS, his boss would not let him leave….

FUCK FEMA

This is just unbelieveable. FEMA and our goverments action towards getting relief to those people is just NOT ACCEPTABLE.

I was just watching FOX and Geraldo is on the verge of a total meltdown because the people are being left tonight to start fending for themselves again. The convoys rolled in this morning and now they are rolling out tonight. Why ?

Does our military shutdown at dusk in IRAQ too., of course not. But the impression I get is that our Military/National Guard shuts down at dusk in NO. Those people need relief 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until they are all out of the city and evacuated.

I am just so angry. It is just NOT ACCEPTABLE.

At one point Friday, the evacuation was interrupted briefly when school buses pulled up so some 700 guests and employees from the Hyatt Hotel could move to the head of the evacuation line — much to the amazement of those who had been crammed in the Superdome since last Sunday.

“How does this work? They (are) clean, they are dry, they get out ahead of us?” exclaimed Howard Blue, 22, who tried to get in their line. The National Guard blocked him as other guardsmen helped the well-dressed guests with their luggage.

Torn - remember that NO is still a tourist town and they want to keep that going afterwards - also keep in mind that what you are hearing on news is really only a small piece of the news - the hotels they are trying to clear are what they are using as command centers as they are close to the telecommunications centers downtown and dont take much to be rewired
Also - these people will be going directly out of town to their homes - not to shelters - so basically they are trying to get them out of the way of the processing that is being done for people that didnt heed the evacuation for whatever reason (not gonna get into that misinformation LOL)
