Rule. Pics file size under 100kb.

In our days when th******** high speed internet connection is a regular thing and the bandwidth is pretty cheap.
Why such rule still exist?
Hey Netpond be so kind remove this rule.

Eventhough I don't like that rule neither I can see some reasons for that rule.
- There are still people using slow connections and it would take too long for them to load big images (I wonder why they should ever join a site then as the images in the member areas are a lot bigger)
- By limiting the file size to 80kb they make sure that nobody gives away the original pictures (3000x2000 px) etc. which increases signup changes

Jeka: That's about the long and the short of it. Not everyone has super-quick, high-speed broadband. Oddly, they'll wait if they're paying for it, but not if it's free.

Why would you need or want pics over 100K? I make galleries everyday and using photos that are 800 pixels on the long side and they are usually 60-80Kb...100K is just overkill. And every extra second it takes for a photo to load is a second more of interest the surfer loses.

Who said that I don't know how to use thumbnailing programs?

You shouldn't be pushing the lower size pics anyway. He or she with the better samples is going to sell more porn. Keep shoving those 500px wide pixelated pieces of shit in front of your surfers and wonder why they're not buying. Good samples will sell the site better than constantly repeating "I know my samples suck, but if you join you'll get nicer shots.
I am not trying to tell you that 500 Kb for pics are ok. I am trying to tell you that 100 Kb rule for pics are uncommon in our days.
Personally for me 150 Kb pictures are more that enough, they have good quality and dimension.

And why I should try to sell 80 Kb pictures to someone when he will get in members area pics more than 80K?

Thanks for pulling me into a thread that I had zero intention of entering. This shit gets discussed over and over and over (and over) again. Optimize your fucking pics. This is a no whine zone.

My quote post above was referring to pic size, not weight. You can produce larger pics with relatively low weight while maintaining visual clarity with simple optimization.

I havent had any problems keeping the pics around 80kb at 700-740 on the long side yet. But I know I have a few sets where I probably will. Mostly the outdoor stuff, the dark background with alot of colors stuff, and a few others. The new 1200 rule and the old 80kb rule did force me to figure out that I dont need to sharpen the larger pics and saving them at 75 or 80% they still come out looking pretty good (IMO). I use thumbs plus for everything by the way.

* Useful Warrior haha, good one

If you use photoshop to render your optimization you can go as low as 50% for most pics.

Other programs make pixelation look rainbow colored for some reason.
