I dropped my total cholesterol 91 points! :)

I have been avoiding my dr. Last year, she put me on lipitor for high cholesterol. I lasted 2 weeks, then had such bad muscles cramps, I stopped it. My total cholesterol was 266.

Since then, I went back to a vegetarian diet...vegan most days. I started taking supplements that were known to reduce cholesterol. Started eating oatmeal and fiber every morning.

I finally went back last week and got my cholesterol re-done. It is 175!!!
My bad cholesterol went from 178 down to 104. Whoo hoo. I can't believe I dropped it almost 100 points...and I have bad genetics my Dad's was over 400. That shows the power of supplements and diet.

Very nice RedCherry, unfortunately I think I have picked it up so its not laying around for someone to trip over

I guess my routine of 14 to 16 hours a day behind a computer, no exercise and fast food was not the right game plan.

Good stuff RedCherry!!
Feels great when you do something right for yourself!
I lost a ton of weight just by changing my eating and boozing habits. I still eat good and booze less, but feel very good about it.
I know changes like that are far from easy. Congrats!!

Weight is my next issue. I need to lose about 35#. I started Curves so I'm working out at last 4x a week, and try to watch what I eat, but it is s l o w.

Just Robert, you can do it! Add some whole grains, I eat whole grain instant oatmeal I get from walmart with ground flaxseed.

Also look into stuff like policosonol, and gugulipid (hope I spelled those right). I think they were the major things that helped mine. Also fish oil, flaxseed oil are good too. If you don't have sugar issues take niacin supplements. I wasn't exercising at ALL, and was behind the computer almost as much as you. I just changed my diet and supplements and did that. I wonder if it will drop further now that I'm actually getting off my ass and working out regularily? lol

Thanks too Sheepguy, wtg on the weight! That impresses the hell out of me since I've struggled with mine for so long.

The vegetarian thing is very cool too as it leaves more steaks for me

Kidding of course, though I do like my steaks

Congratulations

I also struggle with my cholesterol. I'm already a vegetarian, I will eat small amounts of dairy, but my cholesterol was at an all time high a few months ago last time it was check approaching 500.

Three moths ago I was put on Pravastatin and I'm on an even lower fat diet, eating oatmeal, and working out for around two hours ever other day.

Hopefully when I'm checked again next month it will be much lower but I'm told that I'm one of those people who make there own cholesterol or something like that.

If nothing else I've manage to loose around 20 pounds this year but my very high cholesterol is not good at all.

What kind of supplements are you taking?

Congrats Cherry. If Americans find out the true power of a healthy diet and herbal supplements the pharmaceuticals and hospitals will be in big trouble.

Thanks for the kind words RedCherry. My cholesterol levels are still good at my last appt but they did jump up a bit. They could be much worse due to my families genetic history.

This is the same thing you are dealing with Cleo. Your body produces on its own, good and bad cholesterol. Most people are fortunate to produce higher levels of the good stuff. Unfortunately for me, RedCherry and yourself our bodies produce more of the bad stuff. Even with proper diet and exercise it can still be difficult to keep your levels in line.

Here is my family scare tactic of death by heart attack due to cholesterol all within males from my fathers side. Uncle 48, Grandfather 55, Great Grandpa 53, Great Great Grandpa 50. My father at 64 is the longest living male in four generations. His first attack was at 52 and if it wasn't for a quick response by a co worker, and not listening to my dad saying it was nothing, he would of died then too. Thankfully for us the industry is better able to track levels and be more proactive with medications giving us all a longer life span, hopefully

What kind of supplements are you taking?
I get a lot of this stuff at Doctorstrust.com or Walmart. I take the following:

1000 mg of Gugulipid

20mg of Policosanol

2000 mg of fish oil

1000 mg of flaxseed oil (I get that at costco)
400 mg Lecithin (i get at walmart)
100 mg Co Q-10 (i get at walmart)

I'm like you, I eat small amounts of cheese, but no meat, milk, or eggs. I also eat whole grain oatmeal with 2T of ground flaxseed every morning. The only fish I get is all those fish oil tablets, lol.

I wish I could find the bookmarks on the research done with Policosanol and Gugulipid. They have shown very amazing results in other countries. You are starting to hear vitamins finally here with Policosanol, but still not much on Gugulipid. It has been used in India for 100's of years for not only cholesterol, but to balance your sugar.

If you don't have sugar issues, take Niacin. That is one thing the AMA will admit helps. Start with 500 mg and work up to 1000 - 1500 or so. I you have any sugar issues though, it will raise them. I was having morning blood sugar levels of almost 120, so I had to quit it. The next day, my morning blood sugar was back down to under 100.

Good luck! I am VERY encouraged to continue to eat this way, and take these supplements. It is quite a fist full, but no way I'm giving them up now.

LMAO! You and MadHatter, he is my opposite. He loves lots of red meat too. I haven't had a steak or hamburger, etc. since 1983. Took a lot longer to give up the chicken and fish though.
