blue ray / hd dvd
anyone rocking a blue ray player at home on a nice 1080p screen? I'm getting ready to purchase a nice new tv in the next quarter and am wondering if people are loving the screen now paired with a blue ray player? Or HD DVD... You happy that you have the system now or do you think you should have just maybe stuck with a DVD player and a screen that was 1080i or something?

According to one of the panels at the CE event yesterday, the hybrid will be the way to go.. HD and Blueray are digging in.. it might be years before there is a clear winner. Now that the technology is there from LG, there will be cheaper knockoffs coming soon.. maybe by the holiday season actually.

Very nice. But I agree with Jim. I too will wait it out a bit.

Yep it is the wisest decision to wait. It looks like both are very profitable right now, so neither one is going to give an inch for a long time it appears.

If history repeats itself, one of the DVD formats will be able to do something that the other can't. And that will be the end of the other. But, that could take a few years. I can't see myself waiting that long. The hybrid is probably the way to go in the next year. As soon as the price drops a bit. |

I think the big difference with Betamax was that, unlike DVD disks, there was no way to make the tapes play in players that also played VHS tapes.

I just read that Time Warner is going to make hybrid disks that will hold both formats. That might make it interesting. |

It's got HDMI & RGB hookups (and S-Video I think) & I was watching a movie 5 minutes after I took it out of the box. |

And to reply to pornhitz.. yea that's what a lot of people have told me as far as the ps3 is concerned. Just saying you pretty much get ps3 along with your blue-ray player. Probably in two-three months going to make the jump and get a new tv. It's time. ![]() Cheers, B |
