An Odd Question about CCBill Signup Forms

Greetings...

This is a bit of an odd question and I'm not real sure that anyone can do anything to help, but it's frustrating enough that I thought I'd ask...

This regards the little message which appears at the top of all CCBill signup forms which reads:

"CCBill LLC is the designated E-ticket Supplier, Payment Processor, and Access Management Provider for [Your Name], [Your Site].
Content Provided By: [Your Name], [Your Country]"

I'm not sure why I only recently noticed this message, but I don't want my name (or any other personal information!) appearing on my signup form. To remedy this, I contacted CCBill and they informed me that I'd need to submit a change of business name form, but that since my business name would have to be updated with Visa, I would have to pay the $750 Visa registration fee again!

Can you imagine? $750 to get my name taken off of a couple of lines on the signup form? I emailed back and forth with the representative for a while, and he assures me that there really is no way around this. He confirms that the business name must be changed, but that in doing so, I must definitely register with Visa all over again.

I asked him if I might be able to remedy this by contacting Visa directly. Surely, they would be willing to make a simple change to my record without charging me $750, I ask. "No," he assures me, they're a company like any other and are out to make a buck. (I knew I should have gotten in on the Visa IPO!).

Any ideas? |badidea|

If anyone knows of contact information at CCBill or Visa I could use to possibly fix this up, I'd be greatly appreciative. Or any other ideas at all, really...

Thank you.

I'm confused - what name is on there now? Is your personal name on there & you want to change it to your business name?

It would be interesting to know why anyone would start a paysite using their personal name as the account - if youre going to do business - treat it as a business and use the name of the company - if I were a surfer I certainly wouldnt want to buy a membership from Joe Blow - Id much prefer to see a company name (adds confidence to the buyer when signing up). If paying an extra $750 would affect the bottom line that much I would also have some concerns about the biz model in the first place |goodidea

That is correct. This is a default message that appears at the top of all CCBill forms. If a business name isn't associated with the account, then the personal name is shown.

When the site was started many years ago, I didn't have a business name, but it didn't matter one way or the other. CCBill didn't present any of this information to the surfer when they visited the signup form. The form was mostly customizable by the webmaster and you could put pretty much whatever you wanted on there. On my form, I had the name of my site along with my logo, matching graphics, etc.. Everything was seamless, no worries.

Things started to change when Visa started their new program concerning "high risk" sites and IPSPs (the $750 registration fee, etc.). By that point in time I had a business name, but things had been just fine and so there wasn't any apparent reason to update with them.

At some point, CCBill tied all of this stuff together with Visa and put the name on file onto the signup form. For years beforehand, none of this mattered. So yeah, if I'd have known they were going to do this, or they'd warned me that these changes to the signup form would be coming, I'd surely have updated them with my business name.

Agreed. That's kind of why I posted here to begin with. At any rate, we're really talking about some fine print at the top and bottom of the form. I doubt it's deterring many surfers, but I'd like to fix it nonetheless. My main concern here is privacy.

No, $750 wouldn't affect my bottom line that much. But my business model does include spending money wisely. I need to make a very simple change to the information that CCBill/Visa has on file, and I think it's just a little bit ridiculous that $750 is required to have it done. I'd rather not just throw money away (if at all possible). Thus, my post here.

I'm hoping that someone here might know a little bit more about dealing with CCBill and/or Visa concerning this situation.

Thanks again.

You didn't mention whether the business was a corporation, partnership,
LLC, just a DBA, etc. If it's just a Doing Business As or you get a DBA for $15,
then Visa is still dealing with exactly the same person, just under a different name,
and I'd bet Paul or someone at CCBill can help you. CCBill employs many people,
of course, the majority of which do some pretty mindless work, so they may as
well be $8 / hour drones. Thus you may get three different answers if you call
three times.

i guess this is Visa rules...
i do not see so much the problem of having your name displayed on the form though, if the business is clean, that should not be a problem

just my 2 cents

You might want to re-read the thread - his personal name is currently on there & he wants to change it to his business name.
