LL that link to other link sites

Im talking about the link lists that contain a category such as "link sites" "adult directories" or similar.
How does that exactly work? Do I have to place a link to them in my own link list for the time they're showing my link (if accepted) or is it like a permanent link? or...?
Does anyone know and want to share this info here?

I have a directory category. All my links are permanent.
