Stats report question

Hi all. I have been running stats reports on some domains and find that in the 'Links from an external page' the following sites always appear and usually at the top.

searchportal.information.com
landing.domainsponsor.com
sp2.information.com

Organization Oversee.net
ICANN register Nameking.com

Now this strikes me as odd because I don't see why that should be the case and when I do some digging on Google I find that these sites are mentioned quite a lot (particularly searchportal.information.com) and there seems to be some controversy as to whether these sites actually do anything constructive or whether they are some kind of malware or whether they are something else similar to zango.

Has anyone else come across these sites in their stats and do any of you have any more information you can offer regarding them?
