When I last left you, I was going to see my doc about my new back pain...

Well, it certainly has been an interesting & clusterfucked 72 hours!

I know I've mentioned this new/different back pain that started about a week ago. So I got in to see my doctor on Monday. He thinks the chiropractor can fix this (it does feel a lot better after 3 visits to him so far) and agreed to up my pain meds for the next week. He also gave me a script to have an MRI on my back, just in case, so that I'd not have to come back into his office to get it (if needed).

Now, here's where the problem started. Both of those things - the increased pain meds & the MRI - need a Prior Auth from the insurance company. He told me he was going to have his assistant call my insurance company about the pain meds, seeing as I was almost out. And he was going to put the MRI auth thru normally, seeing as I might not even need it. Well, his assistant misunderstood & reversed the two. So about an hour after I get home, I get a call from one of the people in his office that have little or no important responsibilities, stating that my MRI has been approved. I ask about the pain meds & she tells me that yes, it was FAXED into the insurance company. I complain that someone screwed up & she writes the doc a note. So I call my insurance company to see if there's anything I can do to speed up the process. I'm told that no, there's nothing I can do, and that when my doc's office sent in the request, they did NOT mark it urgent. This means that it could take up to 72 hours to be processed. By now, it's 4:00 PM Monday & pretty much everyone has gone home for the day. I had 2 pills left & took one right before I went to bed.

I get up Tuesday around 8:00 AM, take my last pill, and then begin to work on making calls to get my pain meds approved. Long story short, nothing could be done & I basically had to wait. So I lay in bed & wait. The pain comes back around 10:00 AM, the unpleasantness around 2:00 PM. Can't sleep, can't eat, too hot, too cold, back is killing me, legs & arms spasm....basically hell. This goes on all night & into this morning. I call the insurance company when they open at 8:00 AM, it's still not done, but they will call when it is. I get the call at 10:30 AM, clean up, painfully walk out the door & drive to the pharmacy, and things get back to normal around 11:30 AM.

So, how'd everyone elses last 72 hours go?

Up at 5 am to go to the gym because I really dislike having pain and the only thing that really helps is the gym and some

I've tried the pain pills route and they only work for the short term.

Mine went fine thanks. I live in a civilised country where I just go to the doctor's surgery, and get a script for what I need, then take that to the pharmacy and get the meds I need for free, no hassle, no insurance company.

Heard on the radio news this morning that Congress is trying to force Obama to cut his already pathetically small health care budget. Guess that is another example of the old joke:
