Question for TDavid or DD about a script

Hi guys, I know either one of you have much more codeing experience, so I have a question...

First, I wanted to get a TGP script running, which I did get installed, but keep coming up with this perticualr error no matter what permissions I try to set them at (for unix) and even after consulting the knowledge base for autogallery (just the freeware version...wanted to try it out before buying the full), it always comes back to the same error. The error is this one...

" ./data/variables did not return a true value at common.pl line 27. Compilation failed in require at main.cgi line 15. "

I've already tried d/loading fresh copys 5 times in a row now and so on. But still the same error. Any help would be truly appricciated. Thank you guys (or anyone else) in advance if you could be of help on this one.

Make sure you've uploaded the file in question in ASCII mode and not binary

I could reproduce the error when the "data/variables" file was empty.

Delete the "data/variables" file and upload a new variables file that only contains this (on one line and no carriage returns):

PHP Code:
1
Remember to upload it as ASCII and chmod the file to 666.

I tried to delete "data/variables" and run init.cgi again, but that didn't recreate the file. So the above way seems to be the only way.

Thanks for the help swedguy. I had put in the fix into the variables file and it did eliminate part of the problem. It saves the options inputed for sendmail and all that, but now it still brings up another error...the error is beaing caused by the common.pl file on line 27.

That seems to be the root cause of it all. I've uploaded in ASCII, CHMODed to 666, but still no change. I've already tried downloading fresh copys, but the problem is still there. All permissions are set, CHMODs are set accordingly, but this has me stumped as to why this damned thing won't cooperate. I know autogallery is a good script, but it just doesn't like me useing it I guess.

I'll get it figured out. Thanks again for the help, very much appriciated!

CybrFire,

It s along time since I used AG1.0, but I will have a look and see what I can find...

Usual basics apply.. which I am sure youv'e done..

Triple check your permissions
Triple check your paths
Upload it all again in ASCII

DD

Hi DD. Yes, I've uploaded all files in ASCII, all permissions are set as per needed and so on. The common.pl file seems to be the one causeing the problem. I just recieved another copy of that one file and I'm going to re-upload it and see if it solves the issue. If not, then I'll just end up buying the pro version (maybe) and get the support.

A shame jmb doesn't offer support for ALL the products. I should have started paying more attention to cgi & php along time ago. Oh well...no time like now to get into it and start learning the more advanced concepts.

Thanks for the help anyhow DD.

hey do you know how to get the new galleries to display at the top of the page instead of the bottom?

Did the problem you have always start with the common.pl file not compiling to the main or menu.cgi file?

I've re-installed about 8 or 9 times now and the same crap shows up. Doing a TGP isn't at the top of my list, but I wanted to try it out anyhow. Thaught I'd get a taste of it by just d/loading the free script instead of buying anything I may not really get into. I was going to buy the pro version, but I may or may not now.

Yeah same thing, I had error in common.pl line 27, I don't know what I did to get it working sorry man Maybe just make sure they were uploaded in ascii mode and all the chmod is correct, could also try using the exact same file directory structures and noted in the setup docs.

Yeah, I used the same CHMODs as recommended in the docs, uploaded everything in ASCII into the same file structure as noted in the docs, rechecked, checked and then mumbled a few obcentities at it afterwards.

Honestly, I can't really see why it won't work. I said the hell with it and will end up doing some studys into php scripts at other sites. It'll be a good learning experience if anything. Who knows, It may end up working one of these days...or I'll end up getting enough knowledge about scripting to write my own script.

Oh well, shit happens. Thanks for the input anyways.
