Server move :)
Evening All...
Since I have sites listed with many of you...seemed a good idea to let you know I'm changing out servers tonight...woohoo...faster boxes! The old servers will be online for a week to allow dns to fully propagate...there 'should' be zero down time. But, these are puters and we all KNOW how they can be sometimes...lol. Sooo, if your lil bots tell you I'm being naughty...please shush the lil boogers and rest assured it's a hiccup and will be corrected posthaste! Thanks for your patience folks =) |

Hey there MatrixFan,
Nope...don't mind at all, but I have dozens of domains...dont' wanna spam up the board with all of em ![]() However, as of this morning...I see that 8 of my domains are not resolving ![]() It appears as though all but one are .biz domains...and the one that isn't .biz...is a .org...arghhh =/ I've seen problems before with these .biz domains not updating correctly between my registrar and the folks who handle the .biz domains. HOPEFULLY, I can get this resolved over the holiday weekend...hopefully... Folks, if any of my sites with you are doa...please know I'm working on it and will have em live again ASAP ![]() Guess this is what I get for buying those damned oddball domains ![]() |

An update
Happy 4th to one and all!
Well, I'm not just propagating...at the moment, I'm in registrar hell =/ All my servers were left online to prevent just this kind of problem. But, there was a hiccup between my registrar and icann...only seems to have affected dot biz domains...and one dot org. Bottom line...I've got 8 domains I know of...that are down. Last word from the registrar yesterday was to wait 48 hours for propagation to complete...freakin moron. I'd told them this was not a propagation issue, but they sent me back the canned response anyway. I've re-submitted a trouble ticket, but am not optimistic to get em to fix this prior to when everyone returns to work on Tuesday =/ The domains in question are currently showing no name servers...even though my admin area shows them just fine. At this point, there's not a damn thing I can do about it ... grrrr. Link list owners...you know me...please no banning or black listings...I'll get it fixed asap... On a side note...got a hunch I'll be changing registrars when this is over. Too bad, this one has been good for a long time...have NEVER had a problem like this with them. Hell, I dunno...probably just venting cuz I'm pissed at the moment =/ It's at least partially my own damn fault for making a move like this over a holiday weekend =/ |

It sounds more like the domain changes HAVE propogated, but that your new name servers you're using aren't pointing people to the new servers. Or that your new server doesn't know it's supposed to show these domains so it just ignores people.
Or did you do a WHOIS on your domain names and see nothing listed for DNS servers? If that happened that's pretty messed up. ![]() |

Hey there Sticky Fingers...great nic btw
![]() At this point, you are correct in that most if not all of the propagation has taken place. Server logs show very little activity on the old boxes. My host is quite good at what he does and my name servers are specific to me. Set up on my servers was double checked when the problems first started. It was after several WHOIS lookups that we deduced that the problem apparently was a hiccup between the registrar and icann...only affecting the doz biz domains and one dot org. So yes...it really is pretty messed up =/ Originally, it appeared that only some of the dot biz domains were affected. But over the past couple days we've noticed that all my dot biz domains were screwed up on the transfer. The domains that are down are showing no name servers at all on a WHOIS lookup. The other dot biz domains are showing the old name servers. Fortunately, my host is good...he tweaked my old name servers to point to the new boxes...so those domains are still live. Believe me...first thing in the morning...there will be some fires lit with my registrar ![]() And I would hope this will be rectified shortly thereafter ![]() |

It's ALIVE!
WooHoo!
![]() All domains are live again! Best excuse the registrar could offer was...'gee, must have been a glitch' ... ![]() Yes, I will be changing registrars soon. Had they at least provided some level of concern over this...I'd stay with em. But, with their completely...'so what' attitude...they're gone. Thanks SO much for the patience folks...I very much appreciate it ![]() VERY glad this is FINALLY fixed ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well, actually the story continued after my last post...sadly enough =/
I had also told them that several other domains still showed the old name servers. These domains were still live...since my old servers were still live. And my host changed the old name servers to point to the new IPs. Again, this is in a Whois lookup...the name servers were correct in the registrar admin area. As of this morning...a Whois lookup on those domains still reflected the old name servers. I called the registrar and was told I'd have to fill out another trouble ticket and submit it. Honestly, it was like this guy couldn't be troubled with my little problem...or the fact that I'd had 8 domains down over a holiday weekend ![]() Anyway...I did file another ticket...and by about noon my time...all the name servers were correct...finally =/ Bottom line...at least in this instance...this registrar blew it. They botched the job technically...and probably more importantly, from a customer service stand point...they sucked wind =/ All that said, this is a very welll-respected registrar...and I have never had these kinds of problems with them. Given their good reputation, I'm not going to slam their name publicly. However, due to their lack of concern for the customer...I will be moving my domains. If you really want to know the registrar...shoot me a message. |
