as for blogs, another one that a few clients have started using is http://www.bblog.com/. Reasonably quick and simple. As for blogs though, wordpress is probably the most popular and one of the easier ones. MovableType has a ton of plugins that do almost everything. Looking at boastmachine's source, if you plan on a well visited blog, I think I would continue looking. Even the few queries that are run on the first page are not indexed, which means that eventually, you're going to have to fix that or throw hardware at the problem.
