Stat Program

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good cheap or free stat program. I had one at http://www.web-stat.com/ that I liked. Everyone got on me because my pages didnt validate. How important is that? I have a web cam script now that does well, but that screws up the validation also. Can anyone tell me what it does it matter? I had one page go from from 10 hits a day, to 110 hits yesterday. I dont know why. It didnt get reindexed or anything and I havent promoted it that much. All my current hosting stats suck. NATS is good but I cant tell where the hits came from just what page they landed on within my site.
