I was thinking this was a good point...until I remembered a non-profit agency I had chosen to do volunteer work for two years before being hired as staff. I recieved a lot of training and experience in exchange for that two year stint, AND it lead to a great full time job.

Also, I don't think McDonald's would ask you to work for free, but if you offered to do it for the chance to get to know the other fry vat workers and learn all about the bells and whistles of the necessary functions of that machine I betcha most managers would pounce on the free labor.


On the other hand, I can see the irritation of trying to make a living doing something you are good at, only to have someone else offering to tinker around with the same thing offering it as a free service.
