Haven't used it myself, but I had a quick look at the plugin and you can quickly remove the credit link by adding // at the beginning of line 226 in BTE_OPP_Core.php to comment out the backlink.
Are you sure there's no "give credit" option on the admin page? It seems to be checking the value of "give credit" in the code. HTH
