Since you and I have been at this about the same amount of time, I'ld like to see how our free sites have done in a month or two (just for giggles and grins, also we might learn something).

I'm afraid my speed in building free sites isn't much better than yours it took me 6 hours starting with a blank screen and I used the free HTML editor you get when you purchase Cute FTP. (but I got another templete to use down the road)
I also have extra time involved in compressing the photos that Surfin helped me with (turns out I've been screwing that up for months).
Oh and I used the same sponser as you
