I feel with you! It's a nightmare (or rather many sleepless nights); happened to me back in 1999 on Chrismas Eve (to make matters worse - you can't reach anybody for days...): a russian guy cracked my yahoo email (one of the old acounts with little security) and thru some sponsor mails figured out my directnic pwd - and then took all my domains and changed several sponsor acounts plus went on a shopping spree with my Credit Card - all at the same time! When he noticed that I was frantically working against his efforts he finally blew up the BIOS of my internet computer with a malicious script (I had no firewall back then) - luckily we always have 2-3 computers in the house, so I was back on-line within 15 minutes...

I would have been lost without some very influentual webmaster friends... The final loss was only some 400-500 Dollars plus a not-so-flash computer - Thank God!

It tought me to get really difficult passwords for important stuff like domain registrar and hosting - and don't have them appear anywhere - not even in my notebook!
