Jay, you are my hero!! Your post said exactly what I scream about (to anyone who will listen) when I'm not chained to this damned computer.

My mother has been a licensed childcare provider for over 30 years and we have this conversation on the average of once a week anymore. The bullshit that passes for childrearing these days makes me want to hurl... people spend more time teaching their dog to do tricks than they do teaching their offspring how to be decent human beings with some respect for themselves, others, and the rules. Too many parents nowadays want the tax deduction or the status symbol... anything and everything but the responsibility of being a parent.

I too have a teenaged son, and you can bet your ass I know EXACTLY what he is doing when he's online. I still say I'd rather have him see a little sex or nudity than to have him exposed to a two-hour movie in which there is nothing but mindless, unnecessary, unrealistic ass-kicking and gun fights going on. Porn is hands down the friendlier option IMHO.

That's what I am saying. There are so many alternatives...if some parent really was that concerned about their kids being able to access my site...I would buy it for them and install it.

This has nothing to do with CP though...this has everything to do with invasion of privacy. The government doesn't care about CP, what they care about is how far they can overreach their boundaries, how far they can bend constitutional rights regarding unlawful search and seizure.

Look at parts of the 2257...it says if an investigator comes to your place to check your records they can also, "These regulations do not restrict the otherwise lawful investigative prerogatives of an investigator while conducting an inspection."

I'm curious how invasive these inspections will be. Will it be some guy in a suit that will just go over your records or will it be a swat team, lol.

But anyways... I don't believe in the software either. Stand over your kids and watch what the fuck they are going too! Parents now a days let too much other stuff worry about their kids! They need to take control over what they do, not some software! Once parents start learning about being parents again, we won't have to worry about this!

And as far as CP... if the government actually cared about it, then they would stiffen the penalties not try to eliminate porn. Personally I think it should be the death penalty if you are caught doing CP. Won't have to worry about those sorry mother fuckers doing it anymore! Of course, as a reponsible parent, if I caught any one doing something like that to my kid, I would probably kill them myself!

Truth is its time they stopped hiding behind this shield to achieve their christian right goals. Its persecution at its finiest.

Yeah, maybe I could have picked a better title, but then again, I wanted something contreversial so people would read it too.

I agree with GG on this one though.

Hey Bill,

If you would like to use the PICS meta tag on your site you need to go to...

and/or

and rate your web site or domain.

i have a whole disclaimer on my site that discusses having frank and open dialogue with your children.

disclaimer

I even offered to the parents to let ME do the discussing. We've come a long way only to be stuck back in the closet.

What i find most amusing is that the majority of voters are children of the 60's and 70's who came of age during the free love years, now they are screaming because they are afraid of what their teenager MIGHT see? Oh PULEASE!!

Right on Jay.. I've always said, parents should have to take a test before being allowed to be parents. Kind of like drivers ed.

Which is why "protecting the kids" is such bull manure. Yes, a filter to keep little 8-year-old Sally from seeing reality porn when she's looking up information on fairy tales is a great thing and should be used and encouraged. But any good Republican businessman is gonna tell you that you can't "protect" someone from a commodity that they are deliberately seeking (like 16-year-olds looking for nekkid pictures). That's a whole different thing, and the fact that the government and the fundamentalist moralists treat them as exactly the same "problem" is either stupidity or being deliberately deceptive.

Let me add some input...

I'm happy to say that I have a very happy sexual life, but still I'm jerking off since kindergarten and I really don't get why are kids not allowed to watch porn?!?

When I watched porn for the first time I was probably about 11-12 years old when I catched by incident the dirty movies after midnight on TV1000. At first I was very afraid and disgusted from what I saw, no matter that I was jerking off on a regular basis for about 4-5 years already (my big fetish were tits, but pussy - what is that?!?).

After a few months, the interested started to rise... I started watching the late TV1000 XXX show more occasionally and I really liked it, it helped my imagination grew stronger and stronger. That was my best AND only sexual education. The fact is that when I was 16 and had Internet access I spent a lot more time in reading info and doing things, instead of watching porn - I wasn't so interested, because it was old news for me.

Well, I guess I'm a crazy prick that has to be knocked by a truck, ressurected and burned alive, but still, that's the way I see things.

In my country people RECOMMEND, they don't FORBID. We address not only the parents but also the minors themselves. How can you actually expect somebody to NOT DO something when you tell him NOT TO DO IT, especially with that somebody is a kid? Isn't creating a taboo the best way to inspire somebody's interest? I'm telling you this from the point of view of somebody that was raised in times of socialism or as others may refer to it - communism, and believe me - we had a shitload of taboos...

I guess the hunger for freedom in Bulgaria is stronger or maybe the people in the US are borred of beeing free or many people's brains were washed out too much already... or they're plain stupid and do and believe what they're told to - if so You (and your money) are always welcome here!

-- Andrew

P.S.
If somebody somehow felt insulted from this post, let me know about it

Ohhh, so it's just the icra tag.

Well, that doesn't help very much.

ICRA is sweet and all, but I've got hundreds of domains and thousands of sites and tens of thousands of pages.

There is no fucking way I have the time to get an icra tag for every piece of internet real estate I own.

So to me, the icra tag is as useless as tits on a boar hog.

All I want, all I have ever wanted, is a simple, straightforward meta tag I can easily put on all my pages that tells every browser this is not a page for kids.

I already put a content="Mature" tag on almost every page, and I could add more content= tags, but there's no standard for that type of tag.

Dumb fucking politicians can't ever be simple and practical.

I think you may have hit on something there. We don't spend a much time thinking about what real freedom is since we have always had it here.

The U.S. is a horrible mess when it comes to morality. Look at us. The country went into a tizzy about Janice Jackson's tit on tv. Her nipple was covered, but the crazy-ass Christian right went nuts. People seem to think that children seeing nudity or sexuality is going to make them into rapists and murderers. Wahnsinn.

This will always be a country where offending someone is a punishable crime. It just gets worse as time passes.

This post is awesome. The sad part is, it's like preaching to the choir in here. There are too many people out there, parents, out there, who just don't understand what's going on in the world, and with their own children.

I don't know if it's because of the way they were raised, or if there was some crazy phenomenon that made this generation of parents let their kids run loose and then blame others for what the kids get into. . .Maybe that's why we see so many young kids with cell phones now, parents thinking they can know where their kids are and what they're doing with a phone call. . .

I'm young myself, and I don't have any children. However, I do have younger brothers (the oldest of which is 10 years younger than me), and I can see that even *my* mother has changed the way she parents her children. Keeping them sheltered will only shock them in the future, or push them to try and do exactly that which you are trying to keep them from doing. . .

Just adding my 10cents. . .
