I prefer the British version of "stock car" racing. Ordinary cars, so old and beat up that they are no longer good enough to drive on the road get fixed up and driven round the track by people who don't much care for rules. First past the post wins, sometimes that means the only car still going.
In one of my favourite races (at Yarmouth stadium), two cars collided and the engine of one burst into flames. That did not stop the guy, he drove on, and won the race while still on fire. That takes real guts (and a fair amount of insanity).
