Democrat Expected to Take Aim at Online Porn, Introduce 25% Tax on Adult Website Sale

WASHINGTON, DC - A new bill that targets online adult entertainment is making its way into Congress, YNOT has learned. The Internet Safety and Child Protection Act of 2005, expected to be introduced by Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) sometime in the next few days, would tax adult websites at a whopping 25% while placing new requirements for age verification on “regulated” websites and billing companies. The Act appears to have been spurred by a July report from an organization called Third Way. The Third Way report, which has not yet been released, argues that adult websites do not do enough to keep children away from adult content, and that many adult webmasters specifically target children in their marketing.

I bet he is up for re-election and has some stiff competition. I don't think the bill will go anywhere. They have already exempted online taxes overall.

What a bullshit. Why would I want to target children? To make $$$ from Hasbro's ads? You guys either move out of USA, or change business, porn in US will be sooner or later illegal.

it's all about the $$$$$..... certain topics just seem to make those in the the herd who have offspring pay more attention ..... like a new tax will make everyone safer.....
they need to worry about those in areas of the world where they can still have free rein to do what they want.....

they would have to outlaw the PC or the internet.....if they got rid of ALL US websites, they would still have access to all the shit they are trying to save us from since I would wager most of it comes from the old east bloc countries anyway...

Wow I remember the days when Parents were used to keep kids out of adult things.

However they did catch me on the marketing to children part! How did they know that I specifically target a group that has no money and can not afford to pay for my products!??!

CURSES!! Theyre too quick for me!!! Foiled Again By The Logic of idiots!!

You do have to enjoy that they have this bizarre mindset that we are marketing porn in order to corrupt their children, which couldn't be further from the truth. We do it to corrupt the parents.

Do a search for the word "Toys" on Google. How many of you use ICRA labels on your sites? Ever used a pay per click program? There is no way to allow kids access to the Internet without giving them access to porn.

They can't tax the freedom of speech and this bill simply can NOT work, it is NOT right and the report is very one sided. However, it's easy to see that it could gain some serious momentum.

Now call me reaching, but, I can almost see a good side to it.

Like every other "sin tax", the government has. They end up getting addicted to the revenue. Just look at alcohol, look at tobacco, look at lotteries. All not good for you, and the tax dollars keep on rolling in.

Do it for porn, and they might actually stop trying to outlaw it.

Please..Porn is already a huge ammount of money to the Gubment. It's not about that, it's about having a moral America.

Or more accurately, as they said in the 90's "Turning back the clock". It's happening now but we're just not quick enough to recognize that it's been happening it yet.

I've said this before over and over in the past and on other message boards....that sooner or later the US will attempt to tax the adult online business. When the 2257 issue came up as we got closer to the June 23, I said, watch what happens later...

hehe...I sense lots of business moving to Canada here or other countries...

I wouldn't be to sure about that. The government has been collecting mega tax dollars for years from the tobacco industry. Then the pricks turned around and sued them for billions more. Now, who has made more "profit" from the sale of tobacco?

Someone introduces a bill like this every three months- and every session of congress these get dumped - they dont want to "legalize" or show that porn is a viable biz to their constituents.

Secondly - the people that put these stories out in adult WM newsletters are just trying to sensationalize just like they did with 2257 - scare the masses into doing something stupid - damn sheep

What I find truely pathetic about this is that US senators think they own the internet. Don't they realise that all these new rules / laws / taxes is just forcing a lot more offshoring?

cheers,
Luke

What I think is pathetic is that anyone even posted this - its a non-issue and anyone that wants to move off-shore because of it - go for it

Yep, yep - what Linkster said. Is the bill even out of committee? I'd be very surprised if this thing made it to the Senate floor, let alone past it. Just politics as usual. Cocksuckers.

It seems that they turn the job over to gameboy, Xbox, and the Internet as soon as possible.

I posted it since I found it interesting that it was even brought up.

I never once said the sky is falling or even implied it was, I personally do not ever see it ever coming close to being passed so I am not worried, but this just goes to show that the government, both the GOP and Dems want to take away our rights one at a time and paint us as evil as possible.

I agree, nothing like that will pass and if it does anyone making any real money will simply set up busniess off shore or in Canada or in Europe.

Ill tell you more and more everyday I agree with my dad. He never paid taxes for 25 years. In fact they never knew he was alive until someone told on him. But still they were never able to tell how much money he made over the 25 years. Everything he owned was in someone elses name, so they could not take it. When all was said and done he spent 6 months at rikers island and was let out on good behavior and had to pay a 30k fine. Truth here is he was running numbers for some people who are now in jail. I grew up with my dad comming home at nights with brown paper bags filled with money. It was not uncommon in my house for the old man to drop 50k on the kitchen table once a week and tell my mom to count it. He laughs all the time cause he is even able to get SS benefits when he hits that age and all his meds are covered do to his Veteran status. 25 years worth of 50k a week and you only get a 30k fine and a few months in jail. Hum Ill take that offer. Ill tell you it seems more and more if you can hide it then hide it. Cause they don't know the first place to look to get it.
