Critique My New Blog
I'd like to hear some feedback on my new blog.
As you folks know I've been very personal on boogie-blog.com. I dont list a lot of galleries and things there and my voice is one of, well.... me. a kind of weird guy who says stupid shit. I wanted to create a more professional blog one that was more informative and less, well... me. ![]() So the idea of a blog that had little bitesized summaries of stuff, easy to absorb, was born. this is what I came up with Bitesized Sex Blog - Sex information in tiny bitesized morsels I'd like it a lot if you folks could stop by, take a look, check out the layout and writing style and offer some feedback, either good or bad. I'd love to hear it. Boogie |

The writing is a little bland, compared to your usual output - but that is kind of what you are going for.
I think you could bitesize it more - shorter paragraphs, punchier writing, less exposition. Just make sure you put some major snappy bitesize wordbytes at the beginning of each entry, would be my suggestion. |

Overall, I like it and I know - you being you - you'll make it a successful site.
I would suggest you change only two elements : the tone of your writer's voice and the overall design. Your tone needs to be more lively. In acting terminology I'd consider it slightly wooden. You need to write in a professional manner, in keeping with the attitude of disseminating sexy and pornographic information, but add conversational nuances. I would think of it like writing for HMV, Empire, Loaded. Consider your audience. Predominantly guys who like beer, breasts, boats, butts and, hell, anything else laddish. You're text book right now; you need to be Empire. The design should be first rate and not generic. It should convince readers that the information is worthy of their time. A good design will enhance your more professional approach, make your site stand out from the other 80,000 blogs created today, and actually make readers listen more to what you have to say. Go with a different template and get a logo design or get someone to toally skin it to spec. Aside from the elements I would change, I do like the overal idea, and you can obviously write in a professional manner. I've added your link to my Sex Blogs cat on www.slavewifeblog.com if you'd like an exchange. |

Took the hint.

I agree - I think this thing looks a little too much generic blog and not enough special. I would look around and find a better starting template and then work to customize it to your liking. There are any number of really nice ones out there that let you really give your stuff a non-blog look that still keeps them coming back.

I actually kind of liked that template. Not sure I'll change it. I made some changes and ahve been making more changes as it goes. I Like the three column layout. based on that i'm probably going to keep it as is, what needs changing?
As for writing style I think you guys are right. I'm gonna put more flare into it. ![]() Thanks for all this great feedback. Kristian, I was going for an unusual site url, name, and concept (something marketable) but I'm realizing its just not there yet if you didnt pick up on it. we'll see what I can change in that direction. The graphics that are there are temporary until the site starts moving a bit more traffic, then a revamp from a professional direction is due. ![]() |

hrm, ok... maybe a graphic redesign is good now, or a template choice. anyone recommend a good 3 column template that's not too hard to edit?

![]() BTW . . . I sent you some info on a logo designer. I like the bionic jive template and should be easy to mod. If you want to go the logo alone, I like to sometimes use http://www.istockphoto.com/ . You can add credits with epassporte. I'm sure you can find a nice open mouth pretty easy and have the title inside it. I'm envious. I love getting new sites up and going. Will have to pull my finger out and follow your example soon. |

I see a little error when looking at your site with firefox. It's in the second column with item "Categories" and "Archives". Both these items are against the border of the column, i think you should put a padding-left: 2px so the items are 2 pixels from the border.

hey twthumb,
I've been trying to fix this problem in firefox. Luckily firefox is only 30% of the browser base at the moment. I'll try your suggestion but firefox is making my head hurt at this point, I cant seem to fix it for that browser. I dont know style.css so i'm a blind man in the dark kicking things until something works ![]() |

Hi Boogie, yeah i know what your talking about, firefox can sometimes be a pain in the ass. Today i spend over a hour figuring out why a stupid text block was displayed 10 pixels above the position is should be. And the thing was: everything was displayed fine in internet explorer. Later on it appeared that i had to do a clear:all statement in css, i've never heard about that.

It looks nice. I like the idea of shorter blog posts too. Keep the personal touch though. That's what makes blogs blogs.
