Mandy,
if you have some good links from other sites to your site the google spider should crawl your site within a few days. To get the first hits from Google you will have to wait 1 up to 3 weeks (just my experience). Your site will be in the google index finally after the next google update. www.webmasterworld.com is a good place for SE questions.
