I agree with your assessment. IF the regulators will allow them to get away with it they could easily leverage their hold on the desktop software market in ways that could increase their traffic at the search engines.

MS is obviously looking for things to expand into because their software market alone is stagnating in growth. There is only so much they can do in that field...
