And Ben, since you believe that the Earth started 6000 years ago, what do you make of Carbon Dating that shows people and animals lived much, much longer ago than that?

Intelligent design is only discussed by closed minded people (I won't go so far as to say unintelligent, but certainly not good with facts and science).
My question has always been this: We always talk about "the universe" - what happens if this is only "a universe amoungst others"? In the same manner that we see evolution within this universe, could universes have also "evolved"? For me the concept that we came from nothing isn't much more comforting than "some old guy made it in a week, and he took a day off, even". Alex |

I am not trying to crush your freedom Ben. I am only having a discussion that seems to include Creationism vs Evolution. And to tell you the truth, I have never met anyone in this business that didn't believe in Evolution. It would seem to me that being in this business and believing in God is a huge conflict.
And the 6000 year old Earth...comes from the bible. I may be wrong about this whole thing with you Ben. Perhaps you are not a Christian and only believe that someone or something planned all this out. That would make you an Agnostic. And, that would explain everything you have said up to now. |

I've always wondered if there was a god. And now I know there is -- and it's me

Galaxy Song
Spoken: Whenever life gets you down Mrs. Brown, And things seem hard or tough, And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft And you feel that you've had quite enough... Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour, That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned, A sun that is the source of all our power. The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see Are moving at a million miles a day In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour, Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'. Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars. It's a hundred thousand light years side to side. It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick, But out by us it's just three thousand light years wide. We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point. We go round every two hundred million years, And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions In this amazing and expanding universe. The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding In all of the directions it can whizz As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know, Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is. So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure, How amazingly unlikely is your birth, And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space, 'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth. - Monty Python |

The problem with the whole concept that started this thread is that you put any credence in a storybook that was written to justify a religion - anyone can write "tales" and publish them for the readers enjoyment - to create a story and then try to pass it off as a true historical account of reality is entirely idiotic
Anyone wanna explain to me how Adams son (I believe this story was called Genesis) married and had children when Adam and Eve only had two sons? Either he was the first true Oedipus complex afflicted human (incest at its best) or someone just forgot a few little details in their storytales. If you need religion to explain life you are definitely missing out on the big picture here. |

Love this thread!
I've always thought that the best way to put an end to all this terrorism bullshit (Muslims anyway) is to educate their youth - especially science/evolution. Unfortunately though, there are plenty of well educated terrorist fuckwads. Then again they probably don't teach evolution in Saudi Arabia or any Islamic state for that matter simply because it would mean Allah was kin to The Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, etc. The Bible/Koran/Etc. - find it in the fiction section at a book store near you! We're coming along at least.. PS - Sounds like I'm not the only Science Channel junkie in here ![]() Last edited by QuickDraw; 2006-02-27 at 12:09 AM.. |
