For thumbs those 2 sizes would be ok. You got to see for yourself what size fits your design best.
For pics, a lot of linklists still have in their rules that the minimum picture size is 500px on the long site of the picture but I would get it up to at least 600px. Also keep yoour pictures somewhere between 40kb and 80kb.
