can't seem to get listed at some link sites like LOR and DD's

Yes you need to compress the pics, they are too big and will cost you money and frustrate surfers. (Though maybe they'll signup instead. LOL)

I try to get all my pics between 40-50K. That seems perfect keeping them clear and getting listed everywhere. Of course compression look is key that they're not blurry or over pixelized so at times I end up with pics 60K but that is rare.
