free site accepted? tracking?

Hey everyone, here's a few things I haven't been able to sort out on my own; hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on for me.

How do you check which sites have accepted your free site submissions? Some places e-mail you back and tell you if it was accepted or not. At this point the e-mails I get back are accepted almost all the time, say 19 out of 20 times accepted.

There are places that don't write you back, I realize some lists have longer processing times than others. Should I be able to find my site in their listings under the proper category if I look? Or do free site webmasters have a larger rotating database of sites, hence sometimes my site may or may not be listed. I don't really know how the lists are typically managed.

Is there some tracking software to help show which lists are actually sending my free site the most traffic. I was checking out statcounter but that doesn't show where people come from.

Your server should have a stats package that tells you where traffic is coming from. I think a fairly popular one hosts use is Awstats which my host uses. Ask you host about their stats script.

thanks. i'll check some more into it. my host only seemed to have scripts set up for what they refer to as a simple counter. i'm not sure that'll provide the info i'm looking for, though i haven't tweeked around with it yet.

I use Webalizer to track traffic on my server. Simple and meets my needs and was easy to install. As far as freesites, don't micromanage linklist traffic. Build, submit, move on to something else. Maybe check stats once a month and remove low/0 traffic LL's on your submit list and add a few new ones to try.

alright. thanks for the info. I'll try not to dwell on it too much. sometimes i feel like i'm submitting these sites and they just go out into the void and not really generate much traffic. i'm just looking for a way to improve or learn a few more things.
