Good Monday Morning To You!

Morning

20+ hours of sleep over the last 2 nights & I actually feel normal, maybe a bit better than normal

I'm not sure what I've got going on today, but my inbox is filled with little things that need to be taken care of this year - no better time than the present

Tonight, there's hockey - I hope I can stay up past 9:30

Nice to wake up in my own bed but one of our cats didn't show up until this morning so I was worried about her all night.

A thousand and one things to do today since I took a few days off, not really sure where to begin.

TGIM! On to my wife's income tax today, some mainstream work and then the porn work. I have to fit exercise into that as well. It is hot and sunny here in Toronto so maybe I will go for a bike ride.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning, Good afternoon and Good night and depending on where in the world you are, one or the other fits

I've been busy again adding links and I'm still getting quotes for the new furnace.

We have pretty much decided on staying with an electric furnace because we have been quoted around 2k for a good one and another 3 to 4 k for a new heat pump to go with it, all high efficiency.
Gas furnace quotes however are coming in between 5 to 11k including the air con unit and these quotes seem to be very expensive in comparison.

Also you have to bear in mind as well, that I am looking into the pro's and con's of fitting a wind turbine if the powers that be will let us, so electric would definitely be the way to go if we are allowed.

It all depends on the last few quotes and whether or not the local planning office will allow us to put a turbine up but in today's climate with power saving being hot on the agenda, I think we should be ok.

To give you some idea of cost savings, a wind turbine to power a large home can cost as little as 8k and the batteries and fittings another 5 to 7, which basically means a turbine would pay for itself in 5 to 8 yrs approx and after that our electric bill would be minimal, none existent, or they would be paying us for the power we supply to the grid.

Time will tell but it sounds like a plan to me

In Florida, any grid-tied system with net metering does not reimburse you for extra power generated. The idea is that you will properly size the turbine/solar array to meet your needs. Rather short sighted of them for sure. With the other regulations that they have regarding insurance, islanding, dual disconnects - one of which the local power company padlocks, and grid-tie size maximums, it is clearly obvious that Florida (all of the power companies) do NOT want citizens generating their own electricity. You may find that the hurdles you have to jump through will add a few years in payoff value. Florida currently requires a $250k umbrella insurance policy to be renewed annually for a grid tie system which adds about $1800/year to your cost. I commend you for your efforts -- I thought about doing it a few years back and still intend to do it... one day.

Hope everyone has a good monday.......

Holy crap! I'm glad I don't live in FL. We would like to get a wind turbine eventually, and our little Valley Electric does a grid tie system, and reimburses us if we over-generate and sell back to them. But then again, our electric company is a co-op owned by the members, so that probably makes a difference. We have a one local company that installs the system for 15k, with no batteries.

Between uploading and loading updates in site depth for my avs sites, and getting my garden ready, I'm ready for a nap. Spent a few hours finishing planting one out of 4 raised garden beds, then buried the big pipe in a 2nd one. That was hard work as the straw and dirt didn't want to move, and I almost am doing the splits as I sit on a little stool next to the bed to bury the pipe. Back in doors for some easier work building galleries, then hope to start planting in the 2nd bed later today. Have a good one all!

Hello world

I've been battling a nasty stomach virus for the last 12 hours, since I woke up at 4 am, and haven't been far from the bathroom all day. Just as I finally felt like eating something and was heating up some soup, the idiots turned the power off for about half-an-hour...made me want my gas stove back, but it's all electric here.

Hope everyone's having a better day than I am. Today is going to be just a day of rest so I can (hopefully) hit it hard this week starting tomorrow.

Interesting comments about the power generation idea we have and I am glad we don't live in FL. Luckily in Canada the govt. is in favor of the public optimizing energy conservation and there are a few sites online that offer a lot of information on turbines and even building your own.
One of the main drawbacks may be noise pollution but from what I have read, there are turbines now available that are so quiet you don't even notice them.
As for planning and permits, household turbines are acceptable but I would still check with our neighbors just to make sure that they will have no objections.
I will let you know more once we have the furnace quotes in and have been down to the planning office. If nothing else it will be interesting to see what's said but there are already a number of farms in the area that generate power from the wind using similar systems.
