last page I was agreeing with you ... I think some of it just got lost in translation. I'll admit I am not even sure how to say "hello" in Dutch, so we are dependant on your fluency in english.

All I know right now is one hour before the Phase 5 announcement, the WHO was still saying they weren't going to meet until tomorrow (Thursday) to evaluate the phase level. Something has changed, and I haven't found it in the news yet.

As for the "take 2 Tylenol" comment, I was being sarcastic. Some folks are panicking and some folks have their tinfoil conspiracy hats too tight ... and some folks are just not taking this situation seriously. As for me, I want to bitchslap the media for asking stupid questions and sounding like total idiots ... and I want scientific FACTS, not mind-numbing debate on whether this should be called "swine flu" or "Mexican flu" in news reports.

And I am not convinced anyone else on this board wants to discuss this scientificly other than you and me, stu. We can take this to PM if you'd like.

hell i shall be honest with you, i am known on this board and hell for all those years in biss, as the chinese dutch woman, means i write terrible english, and yep the WHO should meet tomorrow but they already had contact this eve, so the alarmfase 5 went out, now about the "take 2 Tylenol" to be honest i realy dont know what it ment, but i hitted that way, its some relax medicine and i made me feel bad, girl believe me, i dont want you to agree with me, but answers like that makes me go grrrrrrrrrr.i dont post bullshit, but i do respect when someone post an asnwer for his point of view of my nagging, saying or whatever, this doesnt have to be dealed with on pm, i respect all , just give me an fair answer,
your point of view, even you dont agree with me
mmmm i am reading back and i hope you understand what i am saying, inshort it will be, you can answer or say all to me, but stay in facts or your own thinking, thats where i have respect for, even you dont agree with me

stu, you’re getting so manic over swine flu you’re weakening your own immune system and increasing your chances of getting it

There are people all around here battling a very bad flu. It’s bad -- people are complaining that it’s painful. Some have even said “I wanted to die” -- after they got better. But I don’t know anyone who has died from it. I don’t know if it’s swine or another strain going around, but I’m not too concerned. I fear getting the flu period. I had one bad flu five years ago and it kept be bed ridden for weeks.

The CBC reports that out of the Canadian cases no one has been hospitalized. That tells me it isn’t that bad and there is no need to start cordoning off towns and dropping nukes on them or wrapping people in bubbles and having doctors in space suits running around (although that would be pretty amazing.)

And about the politicians who are fanning panic: they’re no more brighter than we are. Plus, when nothing happens and they’re up for reelection they can always say “Remember, I saved you guys from pig flu.”

Sure, lots of people died in Mexico. This might be conjecture or ignorance on my part but there is a lot of poverty in Mexico, pollution, and any number of factors which may contribute to people being in bad condition to begin with. So any flu might be a bad flu in some places.

Anyway, I’ve got to board up some windows. I don’t want any zombies getting into the house.

Avian Influenza Phase Document

Quote:
Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.

What I want to know, why don't you ever hear about this ? : http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/04/28...flu/index.html

I believe in education of it. But the media has made it a straight panic about it and it is ridiculous. I am so feed up with hearing about that I mute the news segments about it.

To fight the flu is simple, it is basic hygiene and common sense....that people do not seem to do.

so you wash your hands every time, like when you touch a shopping car or touch something else...because thats the part of the hygene when you want to prevent the flu, like some one sneeze in his hands and touch a door of a shopcar, you go there and touch the door and instead going into the shop you first gonna wash your hands, i am not figthing you, just going thru facts, the flu you cant think easely off

Easy, carry hand sanitizer. I've been using it for 18yrs...restaurants have been. They come in little bottles that are perfect for your purse.

Don't get me wrong, it should be taken serious. But I do not believe in panicking and causing drama and that is exactly what is happening and that is what I take issue with.

And yes here i am back again, Tony Katvixen and Cleo thanks on the tip of the handwash stuff, now here is why i freaked out: i am not afraid to get the mexican (swine) Flu, as long that i know our goverment will do all to protect the people, some years ago there was an outbreak of "meningitis" (at kids) in Holland, also in other countries in Europe, only our goverment choose to wait to give out the meds because they thought it wouldnt go bad here ( even several kids died in holland already) and they found it not wise to spent millions on vaccination that time, while belgium and all countries where prepeared and did gave out the meds to protect the kids..... it was a money issue and more innocent kids died, because of the money.Btw 3 months later that time, yes the goverment decide to give the meds to the kids, for me, i got the meds myself way before the goverment gave them for free and i paid for it myself, the meds where only for the kids , i just hate the fact a goverment can play with lifes that easy. And yes i had real concerns that time, because a friend of my son had the menginites and died.
So my concern with this mexican flu was (yes was), will the goverment react the same as years ago, will it be again a money issue, is it worth to lett people die to save some money?, But now its not, last thursday the goverment told the people of holland that they are prepared and they will have 34 million doses of meds if needed, so they can even give every person in holland twice a dose to protect them. And yes we have the mexican flu ( btw "swine flu" name has bin changed offical in "mexican flu" since last wednesday late night in Holland) also in holland now and we are a very small country, i live in the middle of holland, a 2 hour drive will get me at the top of holland and the same 2 hour drive will get me on the bottom of holland

Technical name is Influenza A/Mexico/2009 (H1N1) or at least last time I saw an update. And I fully understand your concern. Over here in the US, the govt entitites are handling things decently, but a certain segment of the population is screaming it's a waste of money because A/Mex/09 (H1N1) is "no big deal". Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
