A line of ssi implies that the page be an shtml or that the proper htaccess be set, it would be better if it could be dropped onto a plain html page. It's okay if it is attached to a gif, but I don't want to have to use a 1x1 gif, make it so that I can attach it to any size gif.

It's purpose is to take in-house samples of traffic, especially search engine traffic, to a page without having to do log analysis.

It would be absolutely ideal if it could collect months of data, if left in place, just constantly adding referrer information to an html page that I can view.

You make a counter that does that, chances are decent you'll make a name with it.
