Yahoo goes Inktomi
Get ready, cause it's on the way. IMO I can't see why Yahoo would want to shoot themselves in the foot like this, seeing as Inktomi results suck ass, but we are about to see some big changes from Yahoo:
Yahoo Update - http://www.yahoo.com Get ready for Yahootomi The whisper in the halls at the San Jose Search Engine Strategies Conference in August was that Yahoo is set to replace Google at any time with Inktomi results to power its default search. We've already seen occasional public testing of the Inktomi results at Yahoo during the last of August. We expect the switch sometime in September, perhaps to coincide with a new Shopping Search that Yahoo is also working on – a feature that we expect will be good news for Yahoo Store owners. So what should you expect when Yahoo switches? There is no doubt that Google traffic will drop, and Inktomi related traffic will pickup. How much, will vary depending on your site's visitor demographics. If Yahoo currently provides a good deal of your traffic, you may see a significant traffic shift when the switch occurs unless you're ranking well in Inktomi. To checkup on how your "showing" within the Inktomi database, use the Pure Inktomi search engine at http://search.positiontech.com

Is it worth spending $39.00 for inclusion?
Or is there gonna be a goldrush on paid listings? |

It's easy to imagine yahoo trying to become the premier pay-for-inclusion search portal.
But imagining inktomi results satisfying surfers, thats pretty tough. I'm sure not going to buy more ink listings until I see a big surge of traffic on my existing pay-to-spider listings. I wonder what they will do with the older inktomi databases like the BOW, and the "free" ink database? Any gossip on that? |

NO! Im not a female - but being a dragon, I do eat them.

They are doing a good job of spidering...once in a while during the testing you can get an idea of how Yahoo is incorporating their free listings....seems to pretty reasonable so far - of course mixed in are the yahoo and ink paid listings

Yahoo contracted Inktomi in the 90's, now they own it.

My problem with Inktomi is from the user end. The quality of its search results are nowhere near as good as Google.

WHO IS FONZY!?! Don't they teach you anything at school?
|
i think they will change the algo and improve the SERPS from Inktomis database, power themselves with inktomi as the main restults - possibly incorporating their directory in some way and use overture as their main revenue source - possibly evenlike adwords.
Could see this around the new year i think and it will be a big drop for google traffic |
