some help on thumbs plus

hi all

i bought thumbs plus 6 and been trying to figure it out, here's some questions

i got a picture folder and i want to batch compress them i got that figured out i just have to play with the settings..

now i need thumbs so when i make the thumbs they are the same size as the pictures and where are the thumbs and i set the thumbs to be 120x120 and i cant find them ??

i read all the software info in there help section but they dont tell you what i need..

i just need someone that knows how to use it and tell me the right steps please..

Using "web page wizard", there is a screen that asks what size you want the thumbs. And, you might be missing the folder it asks for when making the thumbs and pages.

so you can use the "web page wizard" to make ready the thumbs and full size pictures to make a free site gallery into any web editor ??

i was easy and quick to use frontpages auto thumbnail feature but the horizontal thumbs ended up too small and then when you resized them it distorted them so thats why i got thumbs plus to make some nice pro looking galleries but the guy useing the program needs some time learning it.

jim or anybody else have any tips or things they learned as they were learning please share them with me and the rest and also i done a search and didnt find any threads with what would help much

ThumbsPlus web page wizard does it all. And, take a look at the templates. You can grab one and make your own from them with your favorite html editor.

ok jim thanks i just done the web wizard and the thumbs and pics. showed up on my desktop LOL i guess the destination folder wasnt right..

question before i run the wizard should i batch compress them or the wizard will do the pics and thumbs i checked the thumb file size and it was a good 5kb but the full size pics were the same.

dam i hate getting to know a new program he he

The wizard compresses the pictures for you. You might want them done more but probably not.

Isn't there an option in the resize function to crop the pics after?

I always "prepare" the images first before I set ThumbPlus to work.

Size them, Compress them etc... and then point TP at them

I do what DD does - and it's not just because he's my hero - LOL

I do all my compressions in CompuPic - it's just fantastic for compressing/resizing batches of images

You can choose a bg color.

well now you guys got me confused i thought thumbs plus done it all or there's better ways to use other tools with it

dangerdave dumb question what do you use thumbs plus for, the thumbnails ??

and can you guys tell me the best easist way to do it and what programs to use ?? and whats bad there are so many differnet ways to do it..

Thumbsplus does a great job making thumbs and pages. I really have never used it for anything else.

I used it years ago (last millennium) and it worked great for making batch thumbs. It just had too many steps for me.

Plus I found a better app that could automatically maintain aspect ratio in one step and the compression is tons better.

There are always single tools that better jobs than "everything" tools..

but TPlus should do the basic job correctly.

Test it on a dir of pics..

In a test dir put 20 pics
Run TPlus WebPageWizard over them and look at the output.
If you dont like it do it again

Use your PC to search for the files TPlus created *.html *.tn.jpg and delete them

Then start again with different settings -> run TPlus WebPageWizard and look at the output...
Delete output
run TPlus WebPageWizard and look at the output...
etc..
etc..

Till you get what you want.

yea dave thats what i been doing i just want to save some fooling around with it, plus i been having to stop and go work on something non pc related... iam glad its about done so i can start free sites again..

Hi Plateman

I'm a newbie at this much like yourself and I tried loads of demos of programs to do just what your trying to do. I wanted a tool that would do it all; resizie, thumbnails and help generate the gallerys (within reason, i don't want a 'cookie cutter' type site).

I wanted the option to make a few decent templates and have a program that would help me create pretty good gallerys in a relatively short period of time.

I got some advice from an old hand at the game and he pointed me at Arles (www.digitaldutch.com).

It was exactly what I was looking for and it's a great timesaver once you get used to it. Even if your pretty proficient with Web techonologies and software etc. it's still worth spending a couple of hours with it but it's time well spent.

Just thought I'd offer my help.
