Not showing up in court, or at least answering the summons is just not very good business. They ain't gonna go away, and default judgements go into effect allow faster than anything!

There seems to be a trend of companies signing up with Acacia for a couple of reasons:

1 - they look to be forgiving the past, the licenses appear to be for the future only.
2 - the license agreements appear to have a negation clause, which says "if the patent is proven invalid or not applicable, then the funds will be returned".

Basically, companies are saving themselves expenses, removing risk, and allowing other people to fight the legal battle.
