How do you want your content delivered ??? [Help Needed]

OK here it is and i would LOVE your input!
We will be coming out with a verity of sites with our new store.
A LOT will be done different and we are having quite the argument about one thing especially....

IMAGES
Right now we deliver them in 1024 web sized to "approx" 100-150 kb each.

BUT
Would you prefer them 1024, 400-500 kb which of cause means better quality, but would leave some of you the compression job?
And a bigger download naturally....

Would like to see what you guys prefer.

Personally I think 100-150kb is perfect... Much bigger and they're really no more effective for me, just more of an effort to download and they take up more HD space.

I prefer larger images, but why not offer them in multiple sizes like some of the other content providers do.

PS: You need to reduce the size of the banner in your sig tp 120x60 or smaller, thanks for the understanding.

The bigger the better for me - I use different size images for different projects, so sometime I'd use the 1024x768 @ 150K & sometimes I'd reduce them to 640x480 & 30k

We just might go with providing both sizes.
a 1024 (150kb version)
And a 1024 (Raw version)

Would be hell of a job involved, but then again we would have it done once and for all.

Good approach Loch,

I'm like GG I loke the big size for when I'm doing something special like Platnum AVS's so I can resize them and still get excellent quality...

I like the smaller kB so I can squishem and make em ugly for TGPs...

No need for them to be bigger than 100-150K. Regular webmasters will compress them anyway for free sites or tgp galleries. But like Cleo said, offer them at 800 also. (I just resize if not offered smaller than 1024 but it's always nice to have)

Well what i call "raw" is still a bit resized and compressed as our true RAW files are 3000x2000 and 2-4 megs YIKES!

Right now i think we will be doing both versions though and let you choose which one you want.

I remember the hassel from when i used to buy my own license!

We have not put it all online so no signatures needed, you have your own license system & Domain management system.

Loch - even though you did not specifically ask about the delivery method, I think that the size of the images would effect the delivery method. I for one like to get the CD in the main with the contract already signed (in duplicate so that I don't have to make copies - LOL)

So if the size of the images is on the large size, I for one would not want to sit on FTP all day downloading them

I only make small content buys at a time for promotional pieces so I never want CDs. I don't mind FTPing anything under a gig.

Same thing on licenses. FTP download and send back via e-mail. Licenses sould be in PDF format or TXT and not DOC format. I have Word, but many don't.

RAW format would be nice, but may be over kill for most needs.

A lot depends on what type of buying you have. Someone that just does promotional pieces like me or someone that owns paysites and buys large amonts at a time. Also not all webmasters are on broadband.

Main thing I want when buying content is to know how recent it is.

Actually I like the raw (not your true raw) and 800.
If I need the raws for a nice AVS - I have them.
It doesn't take long to batch.

However, I would ask that you keep the file sizes somewhat in line with each other. I hate batching a 100 pics to find out the biggest was biggest by more than 20%

(if most pics are in the 125-150k range - don't include an 80k or a 225k pic)

Actually there really is no sense in zipping jpg anyway since they don't really compress.

Just let me FTP in and pick the folder with what I want, have the folders well marked, like 1024, 800, etc..

Your version at 1024 (400-500 kb) is perfect! I quit buying from a few content providers because they only provide the images in "web ready" 800 pixels and compressed.

I need images as large as possible. I design a lot of sites and the less compression in an image the first time usually makes for a better image in the design.

Getting the true raw images can be a pain since they are huge and usually need cropping and often color adjustements.

The biggest size possible. I use the uncompressed images or slightly compressed on my paysite, compress them a little for AVS, and compress them a lot for TGP.

I prefer CD delivery so I don't have to burn my own cd/dvd (on large orders at least), although instant download is nice too.

It's also nice to get the docs and ids with the sets just in case we need to produce them at some point. I know it's not legally necessary (technically) but it gives me a sense of security to have them.

I have to agree that I would rather you provide me with the raw, yet cleaned up, TIFFs as big as they came out of the camera. I don't want thumbs created for me, I don't want you to web-optimize them for me. I have tools already to handle all of that specific to the use I have in mind for them.
