I think many feel that softcore, is solo models without any penetration of any kind including toys. I myself use the word for non-nude models, single girl models nude, girl on girl kissing and masturbation by hand/finger. Thats just me.

I think we need a more flexible categorization here. Smth like

soft softcore (nude girls showing off their bodies)
hard softcore (toys, masturbation)
soft hardcore (something artsy like vintage porn black and white porn pics...)
hardcore

I'm grateful for everyone who responded. I think where it's tough is that there appears to be a pretty big division between American and European.

All I know is that sites like Met-Art call themselves soft and also state that they have an attorney review everything to make sure they don't require the 2257. So by that, the definition of 'soft' wold be anything that doesn't need 2257.

Please don't hate me but I'd like to take this question a bit further- does anyone think it's inappropriate to only have soft on your main site but submit hardcore freesites? I'm not saying I'm considering doing this but I am considering limiting my main site to just soft and I'm wondering if this then very much limits my freesites? Or what about limiting what you show on your main site but linking to hardcore sponsors and LL's? Not blind links but links nonetheless-

I don't see why it would matter either way. If the sole purpose of your free sites is to promote whatever it is that you are referring to as your main site, then it would indeed be incongruous. Otherwise, I don't see an issue.

I agree with Wiki Pedia. Anything penetrating is hardcore. If she is nude and posing no toys, softcore.

If she is laying down and spreading wide for everyone to see...that is the one that gets gray to me, and I tend to leave those shots out if going for a strictly softcore gallery/site, because that seems to me to be a graphic depiction of genitalia in a sexual manner.

I misspelled genitalia so bad, my spell check had no idea what I was trying to say, and finally had to go on g00gle and try spelling it about 5 ways to get it right, lol.

I'm also noticing that softcore can sometimes mean young and it's sort of bumming me out... I don't want to switch to softcore and then have a bunch of way too young looking teens- yikes-
