Often wondered that myself stuveltje. The average surfer goes to store and buys pc/laptop, brings it home and surfs. They do not change anything on system unless it breaks. IE is still the browser of choice that comes with buying a new system. Because of this I still use IE, when that changes I will. Until then it is what it is.

Remember, even if IE drops to 50% that just means that ALL the others make up the other 50% which still keeps IE as the majority.

When looking thru stats I did notice a difference with sites and search traffic. If yahoo is tops there is a higher percentage of IE users (70%) compared to a site where google is tops (60%).

Edit: Forgot to mention with my comparison, which was across 12 niche hubs btw, that when yahoo was top SE Firefox had 10% compared to when google was tops Firefox had 25%.

i think your right, i know my kids just surf and use ie, while i forched them to use firefox, reason, i had to fix their puter to many times, the only thing i see differend with ie and firefox is....firefox protects you more agains shit when you click a site....to be honest thats also the reason why i use it because i am a reviewer......mmmm seems i have to focus more on ie then, still my sites look great in ie, but then i am not planning to fuck those other surfers who use firefox with a bad looking site.....heay even its is a smal percentage of people it are still possible buyers and i have to keep them happy too.

My choice of browser has nothing to do with the browser-preference of basically ignorant surfers and I don't think your choice is based on those losers either. You choose a browser because you like it and/or are comfortable with it. I like FF for a variety reasons: security, customability, add-ons, etc. A great deal of surfers don't even know that there are other browsers out there. Hell, most of those moronic fuckers don't even know what a browser is.

I think IE's usage will continue to dwindle as Apple products continue to gain in popularity. Apple has been branding itself as the quality product while Microsoft continued to push for mass appeal/market share. People who purchase Apple products love them and even have a snobby attitude about it, but that goes along with purchasing a superior product, whether it's a boat, car, phone, mp3 player, etc. Marketing is good food.

I didn't know you get Safari for pc. Cool! I use it on my iPhone, so I'm a little familiar with it.

I used to love Opera, but started having problems, now I'm back to IE. After upgrading to IE8, I keep getting these "windows explorer cannot display" bullshit mesages.

FF is nice, but never really won me over for some reason.

Downloading Safari now...

Same thing happens to me sometimes, the reason for it is a previous failure that made FF to not close properly.

About the topic of the thread, i can't say I'm surprised, IE is getting worse all the time, I only use it when I run into a site that for some reason works with IE only.

Win2k/IE6 is microsoft's end of life for me. Down the road a few months I'm going to build a new workstation and it is going to run Fedora Linux. I'll keep the beast from 2000 (Dual PIII clocked to 1400Mhz - a real monster in 2000) for windows-only stuff like vdub (via rdesktop probably), but I'll do all my day to day computing with linux.
