It is therefore with a certain sadness we have to announce that the AltaVista and AlltheWeb search engines are going to die. In the near future Yahoo! will replace these unique search engines with data from the new Yahoo! search engine.

Yahoo! will keep the two sites as experimental portals. Hence there will be differences as regards the support for advanced searching etc. But the core technology will be new. The Inktomi search engine never had its own portal. It now delivers data to sites like MSN and HotBot. Whether it also will be replaced by Yahoo! search is unclear at the moment, but most likely

knew it would happen this month some time I'm like you - I do quite well over there as well as alltheweb - here's hoping that Yahoo can figure out a way to re-include all of the dropped sites

Well - as promised:
the free ADDURL has been launched on the Yahoo! site. It is only available right now directly at: http://submit.search.yahoo.com/
You need to log into Yahoo.com to use this service.

Users are experiencing a lot of timeouts but they'll get it right eventually

Also I noticed that the country specific Yahoos are not switched away from Google yet - should happen over the next few weeks

The last news I saw yesterday is that someone (AOL) might be looking at dropping Google (It's a rumor right now)
